Why Did Darth Vader Not Upgrade His Suit? Why Did Darth Vader Not Upgrade His Suit? The main reason that Darth Vader never upgraded his suit, was because of his master Sidious. During his initial life saving surgery, the Sith Lord knew that Vader still had flickers of the light side left in him, so the flawed suit would make him suffer, and embrace the darkness, as well as ensure, that Vader’s abilities were restricted, so he could not be overthrown. Sidious’ intentions are even echoed by the surgical droid, 2-1B DRX, who doesn’t bother to heal Vader’s face, as no one would ever see it with his mask on. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, Vader had the chance to rebuild his suit, but not only did he enjoy the isolation that his suit gave him, but after two decades, he could not leave his suit and breathing systems, without being killed.
