I got more BAD news From my Doctor

Take care of yourself!

I got an email from one of you guys the other day that made me realize that I need to talk about what is going on with my health in hopes of helping some of you -- and possibly saving your life. So, about a year ago, I went in for a colonoscopy because if colon cancer is caught early, you can treat it. The procedure found five precancerous polyps, which blew my mind. I genuinely feel like I saved my own life.

I initially wasn't going to talk about the colonoscopy because it's a little bit weird (discussing something jammed up your butt), but I realized if my experience can help one person, it's worth it. This channel is about helping you guys live an incredibly healthy, happy, and long life. First, I am going over my best health advice. Then, I'm going to let you know what's been going on with me.

My best HEALTH ADVICE if I were to sit down with little Alpha

Exercise -- including all three: strength training, stretching, and cardio.

Don't smoke anything -- don't take anything into your lungs.

Don't drink alcohol excessively -- once a week, going out for a beer or two is no big deal. Don't abuse alcohol.

Make sleep a priority -- every single day, get seven to eight hours of solid slumber.

Don't sweat the small stuff -- stress will literally kill you. You have to find a healthy way to manage it.

Drink one gallon of water a day

Eat right -- what you can consume is one of the most significant components of your overall physical well-being and health.

What's going on with me

I got a heart scan (calcium score), a CT scan that scans your heart and shows any type of calcium buildup or calcification of the arteries. The reason why calcification of the arteries is bad is the higher your risk of stroke, heart attack, and death. My cholesterol is not ideal, as evidenced by my latest blood lipid panel. My total cholesterol is high, and my LDL, or the bad cholesterol is 146 (the good range is from 0 to 99). So, basically, I'm almost 50 points high. I've always heard good cholesterol counteracts the bad but apparently not enough.

I go in for the heart scan, which takes literally five minutes. You hold your breath, and it scans you. The next day I got a call from my doctor, who said I needed to change some stuff. I scored a 2.7, which is low risk but not zero. And my fear is that it will continue to increase over the years if I don't modify my diet. The doctor wants to put me on cholesterol medication, but I want to try to fix it myself.

I will eat less saturated fat, more garlic, and foods with vitamin K2. I am going to supplement with CoQ10. I firmly believe that if you catch things early, you can fix them. But, if I go back for another scan and it's increased, then maybe it's something I need to face. At this point, I'm not in a risky position, and hopefully, I don't get there.

I encourage you to get a colonoscopy; it doesn't matter your age. And get a heart scan. I also recommend getting blood work done every year in a physical. Identify your personal baseline, and then annually check to see what's changed

My dad smoked and drank to excess most of his life he lived till he was 87! Everyone said he had a pretty good run but the last 12 or so year's where spent having to use oxygen bottle as his breathing was so bad plus other health issues that kept him house bound! So it's also bout the quality of life you have with in the years you have! The number you die at doesn't always equate to quality of life you are able to live!

I'm 44 yrs old. Because of your videos I went for a colonoscopy. I was lucky and got a clean bill of health. It's such an easy and quick procedure. I recommend everyone get it done before it's too late.

I am 30 now and I had skin cancer (caught it early, got healed, no fallout!) and I have a chronic auto-immun illness with the colon. It’s literally a pain in the behind, but: Never give up, never back down. Keep regular check ups with your doctors, especially when it’s uncomfortable! Invest the half hour it takes, I can tell you it can literally saves your life! And try to adjust to whatever is you specific situation. In the end, it’s your body, you have to balance living and being alive to what your needs are.

1. EXERCISE ROUTINE:
A) Cardiovascular Exercise 150 minutes per week; that is 30 minutes of light to moderate sustained cardio; or, 10-15 minutes of HITT of moderate to high levels of exercise 2-3x/week; or 45 minutes of light sustained cardio exercise 6-7x/week.
B) Weight lifting program (muscle strength) - hit all major muscle groups minimally once per week; 8-12 reps and a few sets 15-20 reps for Muscular endurance;
C) Joint mobility/stability program 2-3x/week; strength major muscle groups 3-5x/week holding each stretch for minimum of 30 second preferably 1-2 minutes;
D) Yearly medical check-up or some sort of evaluation system; I like set-points; if my waistline gets to XX, then I do A, B & C to get it down to XX-1;

2. SPRITUAL ROUTINE: some sort of introspection and/or mindfulness program; some of you that may mean attending a local church or faith-bas4ed organization, weekly small-group bible study, or perhaps a mediation routine

3. SOCIAL/RELATIONSHIPS:
A) Build a network of great friends; always have at least one person you can talk about trauma or shit you have had to deal with as a child/teen/ or adult; get counselling if needed
B) Meet once per week with buddies
C) Develop interesting hobbies to bridge social gaps with like-minded people;

FINANCIAL ROUTINE:
A) Track your expenses:
B) Have a budget and stay on track by tracking it every month and or weekly if needed;
C) Start a savings plan; have multiple savings accounts at various financial institutions;
D) Start having a Retirement Account and start saving for your retirement like yesterday;

INVEST IN YOURSELF:
A) Put a bit of your monthly income into yourself; this might be better suits for job interviews; it might be skills based training on SKILL SHARE;
B) Get a Mentor or Coach

Similar story: 57, first colonoscopy in March. Two polyups removed (one was cancerous.) Scheduled minor colon surgery for June (like you said, catch it early, fix it early.) Colon surgeon wanted a cardio checkup beforehand. Long story short, FAILED heart stress tests and heart cath revealed 75% blockages. So, instead of colon surgery in June, I had open-heart triple-bypass, instead. Blessing in disguise (handle it proactively, instead of unexpected heart attack or stroke, later.) Colon surgery resumes next month (Sept.) Just like a vehicle/home -- do your inspections and preventative maintenance, to get the max life out of your body. Neglect/Ignore it = early grave.

Keep sharing. People need to be aware, I got colon cancer at 35. Only way I found out is because my appendix ruptured. My wife then forced me to go to the hospital and through the whole ordeal They found a mass in the right side of my colon. Had to have 1/3 of my colon removed. Turned out to be cancerous but didn't spread. So now I am a little over 2 years cancer free. Very important to get checkups and listen to your body. I should have known. I had lost 65lbs in 6 months with no adjustments to my diet or fitness. But ignored it and just figured it was because I was happy. Stay healthy and go for checkups.

Hey alpha, my mum is somewhere around your age and for the past 6-7 months she's been falling sick a lot. We found out that she has arthritis. A few months back she complained that she is losing a lot of weight unintentionally. She lost almost 8kg very quick and we were really scared that she might have cancer. We took her for a colonoscopy and thankfully everything was normal. Now she has started weight training with me and is repping dumbbells everyday.

I hope you get well soon. You are an alpha who I've been looking up to for a long time and I am sure that you will kick cancers butt like a super sexy ninja 💪🏼💪🏼

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been talking about getting the colonoscopy for a few months now. Rounding the back end of the 40’s(no pun intended) is all about checking in with all the baselines. Lastly, I would throw getting your skin checked with a dermatologist. We had a little scare earlier this year with my wife who had a blemish on her cheek that didn’t go away after a couple months. After checking with a Dermatologist and having a biopsy check, they found that it was Squamous Cell Skin Cancer. After a simple Moh’s surgery procedure, she is on the mend and things are healing well. Like you, she was apprehensive in sharing her story but, after taking pictures of her bandaged cheek and sharing her experience, more than 10 of her friends scheduled a dermatologist appointment to have their skin checked. Thank you for sharing with the Alpha community! 👍🏼😎
