As a human who is bad at picking up on signals, I always meet things like "did you know x is/did x?" my next response is always "is this a good or a bad?"
Pregnancy, new jobs, relationship news, family news... people can be ready to party or uber depressed regardless of how general society would see an isolated incident, much easier to just ask before reacting and hurting a friends feelings
