Me: listening to this like, "okay, that's a good idea!"
Also me: dies when the shower suddenly turns cold for 10 seconds 💀

I swim in the frozen lake every winter in Iceland. You don’t feel cold when you get out of a cold water. You actually feel very warm despite freezing temperature around you

Very true. I don't often take ice baths but one time I was forced to swim about 400 meters in ice cold water against the current (our boat sank). Never experienced something as cold as that, but of course that's not something you normally do. At the beginning every time I made a swim stroke it felt like needles in my body but after a while I stopped caring and just drifted slowly towards land.

Fun and scary experience, but obviously not one I would recommend. Wear your life vest, kids!
(they literally saved us all)

That's why wet-suits (diver suits) work as protection against the cold when you're diving: a wet-suit is basically a neoprene bag that lets in a small amount of water that then can't flow so freely so it gets warm by your body heat and protects you for a while. The initial shock of the freezing water getting in is horrible, though. Oh, and did I mention that is not rare for the cold shock to induce an extreme urge to pee? Turns out simmering inside a bag full of warm urine is a blessing when you're diving in the freezing currents coming down from the North Pole.

As someone who purposefully try’s to remain stoic under high pressure as a “will power game”….AND as someone who just started getting into cold plunging…thank you so much for this information.

This was so true. My father was in WWII and he was stoic. He taught us to go swimming in Lake Simcoe before May 1st. He told us to keep moving, or get out. He was 42 years older than me. I was 5th if 6 kids.

I do this weekly. Been doing breath work 5 years. Yes moving around makes it so much colder.

I recommend showering with water of temperature of 70°F. It helps with stress and increases alertness. I have been doing it for 1 year and it was worked out for me.

Me going ice fishing: "If I fall in, I'll just quickly swim out"
Also me, at the beach on a fairly warm & sunny day: *Takes 15 minutes to slowly walk in the water*

Hitting the ice bath/shower after a sauna feels like being reborn. It feels like you’re hardening your body like steel. It’s hard to put exactly into words but it feels amazing!
