Colour Psychology: A Representation of Emotional Characteristics

Colour Psychology is a project aiming to show , represent and express each individual subjects moods, feelings and behaviours through the mapping of emotion and colour. Each subject demonstraits their emotions visually through the use of colour.

Artist Statement:

My artwork critically examines emotion that us as individuals experience. These emotional characteristics can often be affected by the materialist consumer society that we inhabit, with expression of individual identity lost. In my work I give each subject the opportunity to express their personal and intimate emotions through both visual and abstract mediums, often distant from conventional portraits. Many portraits can be instantly decrypted at first glance. My work, however, allows the viewer to explore the meaning and emotion often absent from the generally superficial mainstream art that we the public are exposed to everyday. My work focuses on the mapping of colour and emotion, exercising colour as a tool to identify each of the subjects true state of mind without the every-day issues of our society such as; ethnicity, fashion, politics and faith. I believe this has been achieved successfully by assigning colour solely to personal emotion. I believe the most important steps to a fulfilling life are to be aware, conscious and ultimately, in control of ones emotions. With a good knowledge of oneself I believe it's possible to stem the tide of negative thoughts, thus travelling further along the path towards emotional well-being.
