Throttle your Render Speed to fix Audio Glitches & Artifacts in Davinci Resolve 17 FREE & STUDIO

I mentioned an archived Forum Post, well here it is:
Throttling your render speed is mentioned almost at the bottom of the page, and the whole thread dates back to 2016, so it's been a problem for a long time.

I wrote up this problem on my own blog site, seen here:

In today's video, I'm going to show you how to throttle your render speed in the free and Studio [paid] versions of Davinci Resolve 17, but first I'm going to play back a couple of clips to show you what audio glitches and artifacts I'm talking about!

If you have something you want shown in Davinci Resolve, leave a comment below!

Yesterday was the release date of an animated film I was working on for the past 3 months. But after rendering, I was facing the mentioned problem. I was nearly on the brink of collapse from all the render failures. I tried multiple solutions from the internet like changing the audio codec from AAC to Linear PCM but it didn't work. Finally your solution did the trick. Thanks a lot.

Fix is at 2:28 setting render speed to 50 in the file settings when exporting. (100 might also work)

Thankyou so much this fixed it for me! I was going INSANE!

Lifesaver, thanks. I've been wasting so much time trying to successfully render a 34 minute video with a TON of stuff going on.

This fixed my problems with video artifacts like missing pixels and static appearing in some of the frames. I did notice the video was rendering at very fast speeds and sometimes restarting the computer would seem to fix the problem for a single rendering, but lowering the rendering speed seems to be the solution. Thanks!

I've been experiencing this problem, but only since upgrading to v17 - on v16 (on the same hardware) I could render at 100+ frames per second (unpaid version) and the audio was fine - after the upgrade, lots of chirpy artifacting especially when there is white noise in the source clip (like bacon frying or sometimes just when I speak a word with an F in it or whatever)
Another workaround I found for this is to increase the bit depth on the audio, but that can cause some compatibility issues with streaming after upload apparently

Thank you so much. I’m willing to bet this will solve my issue. I notice on my 4K renders this has yet to happen probably because it renders at around 45 frames. Where as the 1080p render can go up to 200. Probably something in the process is trying to play catch up resulting in the audio screeching I have.

Srsly thank you much!

THANK YOU.
By the way, setting it up to 100 instead of 50 also worked. Dunno if that makes rendering faster.

I had to go for 10 instead of 50, probably cause I'm on a laptop, go figure... but MAN, THANK YOU SO MUCH. That fixed it.
I was going crazy: it even rendered pieces of the video fine, but not the whole video. A scene? Sure. The entire video? No way, artifacts all over the place. Telling the PC to take its time definitely worked. Big thumbs up and subscription incoming.

Thank you! I had to render my video at a 25 speed but it worked and the audio sounds perfectly fine.

Perfect fix for AMD CPUs that like to run hot. I didn't like that my Ryzen 7 5800X was going up to 90-92 C when rendering (even if it's technically within acceptable numbers). Lowering the render speed a little, I can render long videos and stay at a comfortable <80 C instead.

Have you ever presented this problem on/to the BMD Forum or the Blackmagic Design Discord

I have another issue with audio playback and render. There is an audio interference like when you are listening to a radio station and suddenly a fragment overlaps. How to solve this issue?

Batting my head off a brick wall for... probably 6 months. Maybe more. Thanks for the SOLUTION! :D Audio clicks in davinci gone. Shame my 200fps renders are now slowed down to 50, but a fix is a fix! :D Thanks again.

I'm going to see if this works for me. I'm going insane trying to figure out what's causing the glitches. It only happens when I put multiple timelines in one and render as a single video file.

Also, I love the Netscape mug.

I’ve read the comments, looks like it worked for everyone. It’s not solving the problem for me for some reason? Playback is fine, I get glitchy audio when I render

Good deal. My problem with resolve is it opens and that's it. Nothing I do does anything. I try to adjust the color, contrast whatever, the wheels turn but there is no change in the look. And that is with everything I try to do. I finally gave up and just uninstalled it. I have had this problem with every video editor but the 2 that come with windows. So I'm stuck with very limited editing.

Thanks. I'm gonna see if this works with the visual glitch I've been receiving..

My problem audio glitch in time-line only. Audio plays fine for about 2 to 3 seconds and get glitchy and gargling sound. Stop and sounds fine for a few seconds and then same thing. Plays fine in edit tab and audio tab. And when only audio playing time-line.
Any suggestions? Thanks

I've been considering switching to Resolve from iMovie, curious how much of a learning curve there is.
