We are two women who are incredibly passionate about therapy dog work (other known as animal assisted therapy) and we're excited to share our knowledge on this topic with you in this series! We know this space can be very confusing, so we're here answering all your questions. Answers we wish we had when we were getting started!

More than dogs can be therapy dogs and my bird is a better therapy animal candidate due her ability to read affect better than a phychiatric service dog. Izzy is good at dementia patients, blood pressure management, people who have chromosomal differences such as Williams syndrome. Izzy can make soothing vocalisations in conjunction with deep pressure as needed based on her ability to read affect because she is part of a species that is social in a way that is more compatible with human social, phychological and emotional needs than a canine animal can be.

Christina! I forgot to let you know my brothers girl friend she had a therapy dog. She kept it up on having the dog help people and kids until the dog couldn’t do it anymore with having cancer. Now she rescues dogs and helps out at dog kennels.

We have a a rescue dog she is 1 yr as of this week She is OK
