RTX 4060 vs RTX 4070 - Worth Paying More for RTX 4070?

The biggest problem of RTX 4070 is 8GB memory. Paying so much to still get 8GB feels wrong

Thanks for being transparent about the 4060 dying. You could leave it out and spare yourself the explanation and the extra testing of the missing games with a different laptop but decided to include both the explanation and the missing games either way. As a laptop enthusiast I appreciate your hard work on giving us the clearest picture.

4060 is okay for its price but 4070 should have more Vram.
Only 4060 and 4080 worth to buy this gen depending on your budget.

4060 is way more than enough for 1080p. If your screen is 1440p or higher go for the 4070, although the price difference is not worth the performance uplift

I bought a Legion pro 5 with a RTX4070 on sale for $1500 at microcenter about a month or so ago. The cheapest 4080 i saw at the time was $2700. I had a budget and on top of the laptop i needed to buy an accidental protection plan. I have 2yr old twins at the house. With what my budget was the 4070 was the best i could purchase and it added just a little extra future proofing. Regardless i was using it to replace my desktop i built that was still rocking a GTX1070. So a nice solid improvement. Best thing i did was pester the salesman into giving me a 2yr accidental for the cost of a 1 year.... don't be afraid to ask.

I got the 4060 it’s currently the only laptop gpu that exactly matches or beats the desktop version so it’s nice to be able to watch desktop benchmarks and expect identical performance on my laptop

The difference between a 4060 laptop and a 4070 laptop is just insane here, and it feels wrong to pay that much to get the same memory bus and same amount of memory.... anybody with that much budget should look at 4080 laptops.

Wanted a 4070 laptop, but ended up getting a great deal on the Alienware M17R5 with the Ryzen 6900HX and Radeon 6850M XT 12GB.
Got it for $840 after taxes, dont think I can get something comparable for that price.

From what I remember from comparison RTX 3060 and RTX 4060 - there isn't noticeable difference (<10%) and the same time, 4070 is 20%+ better than 4060. That means about 30% in case of upgrade from RTX 3060. So if you consider upgrade from 3060 laptops - it has sense to go with 4070 in terms of $ per FPS. Also, if you don't care a lot about the newest CPU and higher speed RAM, it makes sense to check options with 3070Ti, which seems quite close to 4070 results.

What I understand from your video is that the main appeal of the RTX 4070 seems power efficiency (min 1:01 - 1:35), which might come in useful for thinner laptops or travelling. When you clip both GPUs at the same performance (i.e. identical fps), then the power consumption of the RTX 4060 can be up to 50% higher than than of the RTX 4070. Correct?

I highly recommand testing new UE5 games like remnant 2 and forspoken, to give a clear image on the expected frame rate for future gaming.
