Machining a 24 in Straight Edge with Dovetail Episode 2

Показать описание
We'll finish the machining of the 24" straight edge with the 45 degree angle. I did run into some troubles along the way and I'll share with you what happened and how I fixed the problem. We'll set up the tool head on the shaper to cut on an angle and use the power down-feed to do it. Once finished we'll do some quick inspection to check overall flatness.

My second YouTube channel that covers our fun explorations and traveling.

Whoa! That made my heart sink. I'm just glad you caught it so quickly. Thanks for letting us see this potential problem.

Something about listening to the machine take cutting passes off of that piece is oddly soothing to my ears lol I could listen to that for hours.

Bonjour Adam,
By doing nothing, I can't make any mistake. Thank you for sharing with us all what happens to you, you are a human body, not a robot :+)
And again "Bonne Année" !
;Amicalement, Raphaël

Thanks for showing the accident with the shaper and also how you fixed it afterwards. Something to keep in mind when operating my small shaper.

We learn from our mistakes and those of others. Thanks for a good lesson, Adam.

You can hear the dejection in your voice while sat at the table but only for a mistakes happen and what's great is you didn't hide it and shared it, others wouldn't, keep up the absolutely great work and great content haven't used a shaper since my tech college training year in 91 😂 but this and your work is interesting and therapeutic at the same time 👍

Even though I only understand about 15% of what you are doing I can tell you are extremely talented.

I like that you had a problem and explained the entire situation! So cool as we all run into these issues and need to put on our thinking caps!

The mark of a good teacher is sharing mistakes. Sorry about your machine - glad it wasn’t a full breakage!

Luckily the damage was minimal and easily repaired. We've all done something similar, like drilling into a vice. Thanks for the great videos Adam.

Adam, being willing to show mistakes made and the recovery is what keeps you legit. Credible authentic content is where the value is when it comes to a channel. Thanks.

Going through the mishaps from symptom to analysis to resolution adds real interest to these videos and teaches (me at least) a lot about engineering and machining, not to mention the skill and commitment required. I find this kind of depth is a great feature of the channel.

A great save Adam. You know your machines enough to shut down quick a find and fix the problem. Way to go.

That is a good heads up by preventing a bad deal! By showing us the work that the scraper can it is incredible what versatility that machine can do! I'll say it again I love watching.

Pretty cool reaction to near disaster.

I love the still shot at 31:22 of the beautiful little curls of cast iron sitting on the top/bottom of the project piece.

You have inspired me. I bought a toy milling machine and lathe from Grizzly and have be very busy making big pieces of steel into little ones.

You turned me on to 'The Gas Tap' = a no brainer, since I am a MoPar Man myself. I notice you did a 'walk with me' where the camera came along. Well done with great appreciation for the art of timing. What I mean is wasn't rushed or shaky! I saw him do it first - but everyone is

Nice job of checking out the problem plus you found the oil level issue and were able to resolve it all. This is why I believe in checking every single operation on the machinery I use, it not only alerts me to potential problems but often you can head off a situation long before any damage can occur .
