Take a look as Sean shows how simple it really is to drive a gear drive tractor! Once you understand the concept of a manual transmission, you can just about jump on any tractor and get to work! From the transmission in your car, to the transmission in a tractor built in the 60's, the concept is the same, and all you have to do is find the different components and from there the process is the same!

Just remember, there are 5 key things to understand when it comes to driving a manual transmission:
1. Clutch
2. Throttle
3. Flywheel
4. Gearbox
5. Gear Selector

Once you understand how these components work together to provide power to the wheels, you're good to go!

The advantage of a gear drive Tractor is reliable consistent ground speed.
This blends well with application of broadcasting fertilizers, seedling and even herbicides.
If A given setting on a pto driven herbicide spray applicator applies X gallons of spray per hour and the crop requirements are Y per linear distance of Z then the ground speed of W must be consistently controlled to deliver the required amount.
There's lots of mathematical charts and tables published by the manufacturers of the equipment and also the USDA.
Nowadays the GPS and computer controls do all of the work for the Farmer.
