Vehicle Anti Theft System Reset Override Technique-GMC Sierra or Silverado

preview_player
Показать описание
After replacing the steering column in the truck it was necessary to replace the Vehicle Anti Theft System Reset Override because it would only start for a couple seconds and then die. I was initially going to try to bypass it, however, a quick call to the chevy dealer (thank you!) revealed a simple sequence of operations on how to reset it. The trick is to turn the key to the "ON" position, leave it for 1 hour like this, then start it up. You must ensure you have a nice fresh battery in order to do this or even place a battery charger on your battery will you do it so it won't go dead. It should fire right up.

so I put a new steering column in the truck here's what's happening start run for a minute and that's it so what's happening is the alarm here anti-theft right that light right there is coming on that tells me because I put this new steering column in and that the ignition switch on the ignition has been has been messed with so now the vehicle thinks it's getting ripped off so what I'm gonna do is attempt to bypass that so I can start this thing off it's a whole new steering column so I have to be able to do that and I don't want to take it to the dealer so I'm gonna try this first the trick the trick to I was looking at bypassing if I had clipping some wires I didn't want him but so the trick here is what I did was I just turned it to the on position and left it for an hour right so you got to have a fresh battery or fresh charge on your battery but you can hear my truck just started up right now so turn it on left it there in the on position with all the lights on for an hour

No lie this worked!! I have an 04 chevy avalanche and just had a new system installed. The battery was disconnected & wouldn't stay started after the install was complete... literally did this guys exact recommendation. 💯 works!

07 gmc sierra doing the same thing, I turned the key on, disconnected the negative battery terminal, tapped it 3 times and on the 3rd time kept it connected and screwed it back in. Turned the ignition off, shut the door then turned the ignition back on and waited 30 seconds and it fired up, have done this twice and both times it’s worked, rebooting the system/ computer.
The anti theft systems shuts the fuel supply off to the engine.

I find this very difficult to understand, I purchased a refurbished ECU unit with programmed VIN, followed the instructions to relearn the key of the three 10-minute cycle programming. What is the difference between the three 10-minute programming cycle versus leaving the key in the onward position for 59 minutes to bypass the anti-theft.?
I would greatly appreciate clarity from anybody
The 59 min I got a start, the (3) 10min cycle no start.

Hey DIY TECH I just swapped columns also in my 00 gmc 1500 5.3 and it’s also starting for a second then shutting off so I’m doing what you just taught me tomm but I was just wondering if you turn the key back then start the truck or just start it from the on position after an hour And thank you for actually sharing the knowledge we salute you good citizen

hi thank you for the tip. I think my story might help someone. My friends 2008 gmc1500 igniotion key was sticking badly and you had to jiggle it pretty good to get it to work. i googled it and watched a guy change its ignition cylinder and he goofed on the first attemt at codeing the new key. he redid the procedure and this time it worked. Ok, I bought one and installed it and goofed on the key codeing process. I goofed many times. I disconected the batery before each attemt. I put the old ignition cylinder back in and tried reseting it. nothing was working. finally the blinking anti theft light would not stop blinking and I could no longer try the 3x11 minute coding procces. I tried waiting an hour with key on. still kept blinking and would'nt start. I put the new cylander back in and left it on for an hour but the blinking light kept on blinking and it wouldnt start. ok it was getting late so I diconected the batery and put the charger on it. the next mornning I called the manufacters technition for the new key cylinder and explained my prolem. he said I may not have disconected the battery long enough between attemts. ok, now the battery has been disconected all night with the battery charger on it. I disconected the charger, hooked up the battery, put the charger back on the battery. I got in the truck and turned on the ignition.(the new replacement one). I watched the anti theft light blink for over an hour but it kept on blinking. ok, i just left it blinking for another hour but the light was still blinking. no start. ok, I decided to put the origanal key cylinder back in. I disconected the battery and put the charger on it while I reinstaled the origanal key cylinder. I then disconected the charger, hooked up the battery, put the charger back on the battery. I then prayed and turnned on the ignition and expected to watch a blinking light for 11 minutes. but no. the light went out and didnt come back on. I was confused and wondered if I should try cranking it over. I turned it all the way and it started up. I was happy confused and thankfull all at the same time. I thanked god too. I am not going to try that new key cylander again till I grow a new pair.

GM Procedure/fully charged battery or battery maintainer connected for 30 min. Procedure
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON. The vehicle will not
start.
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale
will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The
vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock(tm) Sensor Data Code and/or
passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

This worked but the car seems unstable, stuttering, jittery, and making a fluctuating noise if that makes sense.
Thanks in advance
