I won't connect my dishwasher to your stupid cloud

I don't recommend the Bosch 500 series. It's dumb.

Sadly, it seems all appliance manufacturers are going this route. Where will we be in 5-10 years _next_ time I need to buy a new dishwasher? Probably even worse off.

I'm 100% with you! I've been a software engineer since 1997 and I'm just sick of this crap. Over the past few years I've noticed that my tech is constantly fighting me, constantly trying to rip me off in some subtle way and it's totally souring me on ALL tech as a result. It's made me more, and more cynical every time I have to spend 3 days solving some dumbass problem caused by buggy service. Thanks for letting me know others are starting to consider these ramifications. I have a refrigerator, washer, and dryer that are all very high-end with internet connectivity, none are connected. And I despise those crappy blister buttons. They are the worst.

Dishwashers should not take time to boot up. Dishwashers should not have features locked behind an app. Dishwashers should just wash dishes.

I have a Bosch 800 from 2017 with buttons and none of this connected stuff. I was recommending a 500 to my elderly mom but after seeing this I am telling her do not buy this model. She hates the touch buttons and there is no reason to force someone to connect their dishwasher to wifi. Thank you so much for the honest review!!! Fantastic build quality but apparently the design went a little in the wrong direction.

There must be a WARNING LABEL that this product is only FULLY functional with an active internet connection.

Return it immediately and explain why. Home Depot will send it to RTV ("Return To Vendor") and give Bosch a chargeback on that. This is why owners manuals say, "DO NOT RETURN PRODUCT TO THE STORE". Return it to the store. You need to send a message to Bosch.

Things like these is excellent motivation to learn how to hack, repair and finally bypass ridiculous concepts like these. All of this is not about making appliances more funcional or reliable, it's here to keep company in control of product which you already bought.
