Animating map distortions: Transverse Mercator projection of each UTM zone applied to the globe III

An animated geovisualization that shows the Transverse Mercator projection of each of the 60 UTM zones applied to NASA's Blue Marble imagery, illustrating how distortions increase with distance to the central meridian. The sequential display of all 60 UTM zones creates an interesting motion effect that shows the continents as if the cylinder underlying the projection would be rotated around the Earth's rotational axis. The animation was done using NASA's Blue Marble imagery (R. Stöckli, R. Simmon) from MODIS, GTOPO-30, AVHRR data. Animation created by Johannes H. Uhl (2022) in Python 3.8 using GDAL, Pyproj and PIL.
