This happened to me once. I refused to *not* disclose, and they cancelled the sponsorship (after I'd created the content). They didn't refund the costs to create the content. I mentioned it (stupidly, in fairness) in a video, and the agency that got it for me didn't ever offer me anything again. I do feel they should have had my back, and should never choose a company who asks creators to lie over their creators, but meh. I am doing fine on my own, and I have never been asked not to disclose when dealing directly.

I love learning about all the ins and outs of being a YouTuber. Will I ever need this information personally? No. Do I enjoy listening to every second of it? Absolutely.

Transparency and giving honest reviews makes your opinion more valuable to your audience. Building and maintaining that trust by your actions means your seal of approval is worth more to brands, though maybe less might want to chance an unfavourable review. I’m glad to see a return to “my word is gold” and integrity in the spotlight, though I hope consumers continue to demand more of it.
