How To Set Up NordVPN on Kodi

Kodi is an extensible media interface that can run on many different systems. This tutorial will show you how to set up NordVPN with Kodi for more streaming options.

First, you have to make sure that OpenVPN is installed and reachable from the command line.

a. downloading the file directly on the device, or
b. downloading it on your computer, saving it to a USB key, and connecting that USB key to the Kodi device.

In the Kodi interface, go to Settings - System settings - Add-ons and flick the Unknown sources switch to ON.

You will be presented with a warning message. Our add-on will not be collecting any data on you, so you can safely click Yes.

Go back to the Home screen and click on Add-ons.

In the Add-ons menu, click the Package button in the top-left corner and select Install from zip file.

Depending on how you attached the add-on zip file to your device in Step 2, locate the file and select it.

After the installation finishes, you will see a prompt that NordVPN add-on has been installed and will be offered to run a setup wizard. Select Wizard.

You will be guided through the setup and asked for your NordVPN account credentials.

After you enter the credentials, you will be asked whether you want the VPN to connect automatically on startup.

If you do, you will also need to select the country you want to connect to.

When the process finishes, you will be successfully connected to the VPN.

Sadly doesn't work for the stable Kodi version (as it's written in python 2.7 and Kodi has been Python 3 since v19.0 in Feb 2021). I contacted Nord about this but they have no plans to update it, so no options for a standard kodibox other than a router setup.

not works anymore. kodi 19.3 requires python3 and the zip package is made with python 2.7

Hey can't you just install the NordVPN apk into shield and it will create a useable vpn for all apps within your shield device? Or does each app in your Shield device have to have a NordVPN app client by itself?

Do have to put NordVPN attached to each app like KODI? Can you just install NordVPN to windows and run it then open Kodi to after? Same with TV boxes can you just download the app and install to TV box and then run KODI or does it have to be installed directly into KODI and any other apps?

I'm a costumer for a long time on nordvpn. It works on everything as it should. But i cannot make it work on kodi. No matter what the configuration I made, It will not work. I want to exclude TubiTv and some other video addons which will crash if you use VPN.

HI there, you should take this video down. This won't work with Python 3, which is what the current Kodi builds all use.

Can you not just install the NORDvpn app on the actual firestick itself and then connect VPN and then launch KODI?

make sure you follow all steps ... and then open kodi as adminastrator... works great

Couldn't get it working at first, but I found out that running Kodi as Administrator (edit: on Windows 10) allows the add-on to complete setup and connect to VPNs. For some reason, the DNS block causes the connection failure.

Can't seem to get NordVPN working. I get the error message 'unable to retrieve vpn profile from vpn provider' right after I choose the country. Can you help? The only way it works is with manual using .ovpn files which I don't think should be the solution as I can't easily decide on switching servers when needed.

I don't get it, if you already have openVPN why would you need Nord?

This does not work on Kodi 18.8 for Android. The wizard says it needs killall and pidof on the command line. WTH is that?

Everything went well until I provided my username and password and selected the country - then I get a message 'Connecting to first VPN... could not authenticate with VPN provider.' I've typed in username and password as provided by NordVPN - what's happened? Please help!

downloaded to my Raspberry pi using Putty to load onto Kodi and it doesnt put my .zip file in the right directory... puts it in "./kodi.zip/

it keeps saying my user name and password are wrong. I have tried over 20 times already, changed my password 5x and copy-pasted it, but it does not seem to accept my login details. Any ideas on why this might be happening?
