No, Autopilot does not do the landing most of the time from what I know, It is done manually by the Captain and First Officer, but on some - most planes there is an autoland feature which helps the pilots land the plane in bad/foggy weather.

Side Note : Ofr the Northwest 727, The plane probably already got retired and scrapped due to old age and Northwest has already gone into bankruptcy in the 2000s.

Autopilot typically is set for most of the flight including the descend. Autopilot is then engaged some the plane is on final into an airport that is where the pilot manually lands the aircraft. During the landing there is still the computer guiding the pilot into a safe approach and land but in Asiana 214 that system was disabled and it caused the pilots to drop way below the glidescope causing the tail to hit the seabed when the plane tried to go around
