Never underestimate the power of rock. Nature's armor piercing ammunition. If rock small, throw with big speed, if rock too big, drop with big speed.

"What will they do? Throw rock at us?" - some roman soldier (probably)

The sling was basically the equivalent of bringing a gun to a knife fight

What's your EDC?

It no wonder goliath never had a chance. Throwing at over 100mph hit him right between the eyes. Even with a helmet on the nose bridge has to be the weakest part of the helmet. Awsome stuff bro. Would love to see a demonstration of that for real.

The schools in the Balearic Islands, which are part of the modern day Kingdom of Spain, still continue the ancient tradition.
Kids are taught to make slings in art class, and as they grow up, are taught to use the slings as intended, with accuracy competitions being held for kids as well as adults.

Fun fact, during the Punic wars, Hamilcar Barca hired Balearic slingers extensively as part of his army

My brother normally shoots 4 to 7 oz cast bullets out of his slings. He carries glacial till bullets in a man purse that won't set off a metal detector, while he wears the sling like a belt in places where he can't carry his 9mm.

I always blink when I see games that give slings negligible damage. It kills me because we know from history this was one of the most common ranged weapons in warfare for centuries, especially in lands where wood for bows and arrows was almost nonexistent.

I remember reading about ancient armies that used slingers for their artillery, and find it unbelievable how little respect and credit this weapon is given.

Once again, Thank YOU for educating people on such almost forgotten history. Another amazing video!

Judean slingers were well renown too. One of the coolest parts of David’s story I find is that he took 5 stones. 1 for Goliath and the other four for each brother of Gath.

Confidence in God and skill right there…

Thank you for bringing our history back to life.

Slingshots are also devadtating against armored targets since the blunt force of the projectile that can way over 400 grams will break bones and make you bleed from the inside. Some projectikes had carvings in them to make a wistling sound for psycological effects and others had writing on them to demoralise the enemy

Imagine being the best armed and armored warrior with the best training of the time, only to be taken out by a merc with a sling and a rock

They also used lead shot and were highly valued auxiliaries of the Roman army.

The Anaxagoras stone, the first evidence of flight archery in Greece, 5th to 3rd century BC

The ancient measurement is usually translated as ’fathom’ and in Byzantine times measured 1.87 m. So 282 orguias would equal roughly 522 m, or some 570 yards

300-400yards pft

Slings were actually discovered in many regions across the globe including South America and Australia. The ancient Sumer were also known to use slings quite extensively as a form of combat and even siege craft. They would literally just pelt a city wall with slings until it came apart. Humans are just really good at figuring out how to destroy each other from a distance.
