My first DAW teacher was Warren Sokol! I didn't even know he was with this group, until I'd been watching these videos, awhile.

Making music! What a novel idea. We get so carried away with videos and tutorials that we forget to creat. When I started putting music on YouTube it was a huge learning experience for me. Warts and all. Learning arrangements, image choices as well as compositional choices was and is challenging. Yet it is very rewarding. Great advice as always. Love the channel!🎉❤

I watched this yesterday, and was astonished when you said you'd put the mastering course in the academy. I had to go and check. Yep, sure enough it was there - I watched a couple of vids. Then I went to look at something else, and forgot to say, thank you. It is a wonderful gesture, as I'm already a member. I know, even if I'm not among the best mixers in the Academy, that I will take away stuff from this, course that will feed back into my mixing, as well as mastering. It is a marvelous, nay, magnanimous present to get. Thanks to all involved

Very generous of you, but after 45 years not sure I need to go back to school even if I still learn something every day what with technological developments and changing ways of creating music, still follow your channel though, very informative and entertaining!

I'm just beginning to put together a setup for recording bass parts at home here.
I've learned a lot just looking at the YouTube videos.
I can't begin to impart how much I've got from them. Thanks!
I'll be leaving a couple bucks in the jar soon. Just a few things to iron out.

Hello PLAP. I became an academy member last summer after watching this YouTube channel for a couple of years and I must say that access to FeedBack Fridays, especially the 'Originals' is well worth the price of admission for me. It's so fascinating to to see all the different levels of production skills going on by the various 'PLAPERS'. However, I must mention that I find navigating the forum a bit difficult. I have no idea how to get one on one mentoring or, better yet, how to make myself available to mentor others who might be approaching my skill level. I'll also say that I don't need to get a dressing down from Andrew Schweppes or Bob Ezrin but what I really need is someone to listen to where I'm going with a project and give feedback like "you want that much high end on your reverb? Really? Are you nutz" or "that note doesn't work with that chord, I don't care how edgy or hip you think it might sound" that sort of thing.
For instance, right now I'm working on a cover of Crystal Gales "Talking In Your Sleep" originally recorded by The Marmalade and written by Roger Cook and Bobby Wood. (I love 70s power ballads) anyway, I'm well over a hundred hours into the song including pre-production, practicing and working with two other musicians, neither of whom are really into recording in the nutzo way that I am. So, as you said, getting someone else to just have a listen and give a perspective on what I'm doing, a second set of ears would be so nice. But I don't really know who or how to approach anyone with in the community.
I think that because it's a cover, it's really not appropriate for FeedBack Fridays. I wouldn't want to bother PLAP with the whole licensing hassel. I don't have a problem licensing songs, I would certainly do so if that could get me on FBF . But I don't license ever song that I have a whim about.
Anyway, I've got the instruments recorded an am going to be working with a singer later today. I think it's coming along but still and always second guessing myself.
I know people post their mixes on the forum. But usually they are finished mixes and people are really nice and say "nice song". That's not so much of what I'm looking for either. I need to be beaten up a bit.
To Warren and Eric, if you find this comment sounds negative with regard to PLAPA in anyway please feel free to delete it. It's not my intention to criticize, I'm merely searching for a way to get involved in this community. I'm trying to learn, but I'm not a modern person, I'm 60 and have never taken a 'selfie' or used Twitter, Instagram Pintress or any social media platforms other than YouTube.
Thanks again for this valuable platform.

Scincerely

How important is it to take time to make musicians feel happy, relaxed, and comfortable so that they're able to give their best performance? (VERY) It's amazing how many studio owner/operators don't get this - you should do something on that. :)
