Satellite imagery contrasts California before and after storms that caused enormous amounts of flooding and took the lives of at least 22 people, according to the Los Angeles Times. Starting in late December, atmospheric rivers dumped tons of water on the state, causing thousands of people to evacuate as floodwaters rose and mudslides took out roads and other infrastructure.

President Joe Biden is due to travel to California’s Central Coast on January 19 to visit affected areas and ‘assess what additional federal support is needed,’ according to a White House statement.
