I lived in Asheville, NC and my dog would get ticks all the time when we would go hiking. Just pull them out. If you get them within a couple of hours the head won't pop off in there. I've never had the head detach from the body.

The twist sticks are the best for getting them off. Oil, vaseline or yanking them out isn't the way. If you get the mouth bit stuck in your skin you're getting an infection. Straight up. Nasty little things.

Yeah, whoever told you to do it this way was crazy. Just use tweezers and pull it out by the head, then just clean the area. Easy peasy

My great grandfather doed from rocky mountain spotted tick fever. My grandmother (his daughter)tapes ticks to our calendar so we know the exact date

The lone star tick carry’s STARI. I was bit by that tick years ago thankfully I was able to take it off minutes after it was struggling to latch on, but my method was scratching it off and boy do they hang on!

I remember reading somewhere that a drop of kerosene is to get them to loosen their grip. The encyclopedia I read this in is pretty old, however, I think that's what these people were trying to get at

In Australia we have paralysis ticks which kill our pets, it’s a terrible way to die, I’ve lost 2 dogs to these ticks and it only takes a few days. The antivenin doesn’t work if you find the tick too late. You can’t squeeze the body of these ticks (which engorge with blood and get big and fat) or irritate them because they inject more poison into the animal. Grab the head with tweezers and pull, don’t play with it, this video stresses me out!!!
