Like Jay Leno says: A full face helmet looks a little strange on old bikes, but not as strange as you will when you leave the hospital

As someone taking my msf in a few weeks and looking to buy a cruiser I’m glad you do some sort of cruiser videos

Fun fact: over 80% of head injuries on motorcycles occur to the lower 1/3 of the rider's face. WEAR A FULL FACE

For commuting, where I'm not really getting above 40 or 45 mph, I wear Icon knee and shin armor under my pants. No, it's not the best as far as the rest of my legs, or my hips, but in 2011 it turned what could have been a knee break or dislocation into no big deal. This also lets me avoid having to change pants at work or wear riding pants over my pants. Sometimes I'll wear the armor all day, other times I'll take it off when I get in.

Other than that it's leather or leather+tex jacket with replacement armor (not that foam crap) and a real back protector, gauntlet leather gloves with armor, Shoei full face helmet, and riding boots with good rigid ankle protection (I usually don't wear full race boots for commuting since I don't want to change footwear at work all the time, plus I need something that doesn't go too high up my shin when I'm wearing the Icon knee and shin armor).

Whenever I've discussed gear with people I've always brought up the driveway test. It's hypothetical (unless you want it to be real). Just imagine what you're thinking of wearing on a motorcycle, go out into the street in front of your house, and SPRINT at full speed toward your driveway and then jump and land smack onto your driveway. If you feel pretty good about remaining intact in that driveway dive, you might be okay. If the thought of diving onto your driveway after sprinting makes you queasy, you might want to think some more about what you plan to wear.

I slid wearing the first manufacturing vendetta jacket and it held up awesome. I didnt even have armor in it, not a single scratch on my upper body. I bought another one because I was very happy with how it protected me.

I have that exact first manufacturing jacket, and I love it. I ride all year round in SoCal with it, and the ventilation works really well, even in 100 degree weather

Nice to see 2 pieces of gear I own mentioned in this video. I enjoy my HJC I90 helmet and Vendetta Jacket.

Hey, would you do a video about the top whatever 2 stroke bikes? In the USA they seem pretty underrated.

Thanks for including a recommendation for the ladies! I was pleasantly surprised, and highly appreciative!

I know you said you won't recommend a 3/4 helmet, but I purchased a SHOEI RJ-Platinum R about five months ago having worn a 1/2 shell for the last 15 years. The Platinum R is Snell Approved and surprisingly comfortable and cool even in 100+ degree weather. I felt that it had more airflow than my old GMax lid that didn't have vents, and it certainly cut down the "wind noise". It's a great helmet for cruiser riders.

I ride in all sorts of weather, so i have a leather jacket with a removable liner and vents. I also have a mesh jacket for really hot weather. Both have more than enough armor.

Love the fact that you're for protective gear and care less about stereotypes of it not looking cool.

I used to like to ride in a tuxedo shirt, bow tie, dress pants and dress shoes. I went bar hopping in Daytona in a tuxedo shirt with suspenders and bow tie. I was to messed up to walk and I had a job interview in 50 minutes. I rode 100+ mph on a Harley with ape hangers all the way there and had a pickup pull right out in front of me. I swerved and misssed him but I was able to reach out and slap his rear bumper. I made it there alive and got the job. These days I wear leather and a 3/4 helmet. I still like the 16" aoes with no windshield or faring. Fun times.
