160 psi mean compressor switch off when pressure build up in tank?

I like the method but I think you may have made a mistake with the final part of your calculation. Your volume of 7.2 cfm seems reasonable, but wouldn't this be at the average tank pressure during filling and not the max tank pressure because you timed the entire fill cycle? The tank was not at 160 psig the entire time, only at the end. The average tank pressure would be 80 psi if you started at 0 and ended at 160 psi.

7.2 cfm at 80 psi seems like a more reasonable value when you consider similar pumps especially if yours is only running on a single cylinder.

Compressor pumps are rated at different RPMs larger pumps generally turn at 700 to 900 RPM smaller pumps turn faster so you have to be aware of the pumps recommended rpm for proper lubrication. Did your one cylinder fail due to improper pump rpm?

I really don't get it. I thought CFM was the flow rate of air leaving the tank towards the tool, not the flow rate of air filling the tank...
