Everyone NEEDS to hear this: food waste is one of the biggest environmental and social issues we actually have the power to change.
Globally, we waste about one-third of all food produced, and in the U.S. alone, 40% of our food supply goes to waste—while millions of people go hungry. This isn’t just an ethical issue; it’s an environmental and financial crisis, too. Food waste is responsible for 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with rotting food in landfills producing methane, a gas 80 times more potent than CO2 in the short term. On top of that, the average American household loses over $1,800 per year on uneaten food.
As an environmentalist today, when we’re still debating whether climate change is even real, I’ve realized that focusing on tangible, bridge-building solutions like reducing food waste is crucial. No matter your background, political stance, or beliefs, we should all be able to agree that throwing away perfectly good food is just wrong… in today’s day and age, agreeing on any issue is a win!
We have the resources to do better—in every sense—and it’s time we start taking action. Small changes add up, and we can all be part of the solution. I hope my content can be a helping hand in your efforts to make even the smallest of shifts in the right direction 🤍🤍
