I used your video transcription to create a poem sumary of your video using GPT-4:

David Shapiro shares a tale,
Of immortality, will it prevail?
By 2030, Kurzweil claims,
Biological death, no longer remains.

Exponential rise of AI,
Nanotech, Quantum Computing, oh my,
Longevity escape velocity near,
An iPhone moment of medicine, we hear.

Social reactions, a divide,
Accept or reject, we must decide,
Economic impact, equality or not,
Innovation or stagnation, the human lot.

Living forever, hedonism or asceticism,
A balance we must find, beyond the schism,
In 200 years, war and disease quelled,
Communal living, population held.

In 2000 years, interstellar flight,
Humans adapt, to planets' plight,
Maybe we'll evolve, become new species,
Like Klingons or Vulcans, in the galaxies.

So join the conversation, the debate,
To live forever, is it our fate?
David's video, an exploration,
Of immortality, and its implications.

Born too late to explore the world, born too early too explore the universe. Born just in time to achieve immortality and do it anyway.

If this turns out to be true, then we’re living in a phenomenally special moment in human history. I mean, the likelihood that we would be born at this juncture in human history is so minuscule that it’s sort of hard to fathom. We will be the generation to be most perfectly positioned to truly understand how miraculous biological immortality is. Future generations will be born into it and I doubt they’ll be able to fully comprehend what living with the inevitability of death looming over you for such a long time does to the psyche. We’re redefining what it means to be human.

2000: The only guarantee in life is death and taxes.

2030: The only guarantee in life is taxes.

What I’m most interested in are the psychological effects of immortality. If our body can stay the same for 1000 years, that doesn’t mean our mind will. Life may not be meant to live that long, and if we do, is it possible we’ll slowly go insane as our concept of time changes?

I appreciate these subjects being thought about and discussed.

It's not immortality. It's eternal youth.
You still can still smash your head open enjoying your 'best life'.

I'm one for hedonism! I think we'll be able to have robots do all the work while we sit at home in our virtual reality having tons of fun, and engineer it so the fun never gets boring. To me that would be more meaningful then anything else.

If I can attain immortality, I will use my life to study everything, gym everyday and doing volunteer work like sweeping the public roads and floors.

"In Time" (2011) from director Andrew Niccol, who also made "Gattaca", is a pretty interesting take on immortality, with time being the currency of the world. The movie even has a scene where the main character (played by Justin Timberlake) goes all in on the gambling table with all the remaining time he has.

It never works out as well as we’d hoped and it’s never as bad as we feared.

you know why they'll do EVERYTHING they can to reach that goal? cos people like the CEO of nvidia and other billionaires are reaching the end of their life cycle and they'll do anything they can to avoid it.. so yeah I kinda believe we'll go there pretty quickly in a way or another

AGI, ASI, immortality etc are all going to result in either extreme dystopia(Not very likely imo) or in a society like Culture from the culture novel series.

And its pretty much given that we are going to end up in space habitats. Maybe even by the end of this century and definitely in 200 years. Which coupled with asteroid mining is going to mean pretty much a post-scarcity society like the culture.

Agreed that "death/finite time gives life meaning" is soothing narrative, in response to lack of choice.
Hopefully Diabetes can be reversed by then, which is existential hell wished on nobody.

I swear, it’s like you made a video about all of the things I’ve been talking about and thinking about for the last 6 months! Amazing work

Would be interesting to see how many people choose a middle path of living much longer before choosing when they die since this reminds me of how Bioware's Mass Effect has races of beings called the Asari & Krogan which live thousands of years but still pass away.

Phylosophically I'm all for immortality, not because I'm afraid of death but because the idea of having an eternity to master your skills is a very appealing idea for me. Imagine a doctor, practicing physicial with 200 years of expirience. Yeah I would like to be someone like that.
