Matthew Perry’s autopsy reveals ‘bizarre’ drug combinations, Dr. Drew says | Cuomo

Matthew Perry's autopsy report revealed his cause of death as "acute effects of ketamine." Although he was in recovery for substance abuse, Perry was receiving ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression, but the amount found in his system has raised red flags. Dr. Drew Pinsky, an internal medicine and addiction specialist and host of "Ask Dr. Drew," says it seems “bizarre” that a recovering addict would have been prescribed the combination of drugs found in Perry’s system.

I think Dr Drew is nicely saying that Matthew’s addictions were so out of control and never stopped that the medical profession was permanently putting him on drugs to get off of drugs. Then he was self medicating with drugs. Then he had liver disease and breathing problems and off shoot physical ailments connected to addictions. Bottom line: Matthew was never cured of addiction. Matthew was in a car on the highway with nobody driving.

If he wasn't in water, he would still be alive. The Ketamine sedated him much like during a surgical procedure, and he drowned. It is shocking how much Ketamine was in his system.

I was hoping this autopsy wouldn't show what I was already thinking. It is very sad that his addiction took over, in the end. He obviously was a tortured soul, which many actors are. RIP Perry. You were loved.

It was a fricken overdose can we stop trying to sugar coat it please. We’re not idiots. He was struggling. Probably didn’t necessary want to harm himself but he did. He was a wonderful person, despite his addictions. Goes to show money can’t buy ya happiness.

The question is, who was prescribing all these medications?? Maybe they should be investigated

The problem is, once an addict is clean, and then starts back up on meds, even for treatment, they think their tolerance is the same as when they were an addict. But your tolerance goes down. Thus, an outcome unforeseen.

I've been following Dr. Drew since 2003 and I've been waiting to hear what he had to say about this because I commented on early videos that no doctor in their right mind should be prescribing Ketamine or Benzo's to an ex-addict. Let alone taking those things are far from being 'sober' or 'clean'. Sure enough Dr. Drew is a straight talker when it comes to addiction medicine and he will also not play naive to addicts behaviors. He shut's down Cuomo's assessment that Perry wasn't a liar (04:43) because that's the harsh reality. I would also recommend all of Dr. Drew's books, especially those who have family members that are His books really help shed a light on what to expect and why people behave the way they do.

Having once worked in a rehab hospital, and especially after having read his book and watched his interviews during the promotional tour, I sensed Matthew Perry sounded far too sure of his sobriety and expected he'd relapse. But I never thought he would die -- he had already survived so much. At least his struggle is finally over...for his family and loved ones as well. RIP.

In the end, no matter what, Matthew was a pure human soul. God bless him and may he forever rest in peace.😢❤

It breaks my heart that we have lost Mathew Perry. For whatever reasons he had a disease. Unfortunately it won. Rest in Peace my dear Brother. You are so loved and appreciated.

Dr Drew is awesome, I always get the feeling that things are under control when he joins the conversation. He knows what he is talking about.

This is very very sad because I struggle with depression and “demons” and once people start self medicating…….it’s a mess.
I was so happy to be on team Perry and I read his book and listened to the audio book after his passing (big mistake I think) and this just makes me angry.
Because I am convinced that not very many people are aware that someone can live a a very dark, sad, ugly, evil, place …. Right at the precipice of the “end” and they struggle to smile because they don’t want to infect the people they love. So they live a dark desperate life…….and then they lose their battle and are called weak. WEAK ! 😢
and they are mistreated in psych ER and you really have to go in as a nurse or even a psychiatrist to really be able to be respected when you say - HEY ! I have something to say!
It’s so
Lonely and so …….. DESPERATE and then their is this magic relief pill or patch or drug or drink and you finally feel relief…….and who doesn’t want to feel relief.
Not happy!
NOT
Just relief 😔
This really hurt me so bad.
And I hope you get bored and someone on your team gets bored and reads this……..
The healthcare system is not doing enough for this.
PLEASE LISTEN WITH YOUR SOUL……
There is not a child alive on the planet that…if you asked them….what do you want to be when you grow up…..they would say……I want to be a self medicated addict.
No.
So……..what happens?
What happens to them?
😢
I was so hoping that he just got in the hot tub and his copd and bartered body just gave up and he slipped away on heat dream…..but I’m no moron….as an LPN I learned a few things 😢
And it breaks my heart that he lost his battle but people will see it as weakness…..he lost his fight with his disease.😢😢😢😢
Poly pharmacy did NOT help…..😢
And I’m so angry at whoever gave him the ketamine that he ingested after his pickle ball game.😢
because that person who helped him get his hands on that ketamine……is a killer 😢
.
And so many people tho king that ketamine is fun……ketamine will KILL YOU
What the fuck is wrong g with everyone.
😢
What a loss!
A beloved person with a mega platform….who could have helped so much more people.
Damn…….
It’s like when your quarter back fucks ip and gives up but inside you feel like he could help the team win the game….but he’s tired and his confidence is down….and you can’t do shit but watch and cry.
Happy fucking birthday to me and happy holidays.
Damn!
Because when you have experienced the dark night of the soul……you really cry alot for people who went down the serious drug path…..you know?
You’re there having a beer for breakfast and gaining weight but you feel the same pain and you’re rooting for them…..because if they can make it through so can you…..and then some Jack off decides that suboxonw and ketamine is a great idea for a 54 year old and you just watch the train wreck. 😢
I’m so angry

Russell Brand was heavily addicted to drugs. According to him the only way to get clean was to get away from them completely. As in no methadone or any other type of medications to ween himself off. And that’s what he did. My ex did the same. He just walked away from all of it. Never touched it again. When I took our kids and left he finally realized it wasn’t worth the trade. It woke him up. One by one his friends stopped as well. Prayer works. We stayed together another 15 years.
