FAQ's:
Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. What's wrong?
A: If the key assembly is not installing correctly, its either due to a component being damaged and needing to be replaced or a component not being orientated correctly. I would disassemble the key as seen here in this video and inspect for damage. If there is no damage, install the key. If there is damage, replace the key. Would you like help locating a key? If so, what is the brand and model for your computer?

Q: My Retainer Clip will not fasten down correctly.
A: If the Retainer Clip does not fasten correctly to the Keyboard, there can be several reasons. The Retainer Clip could be orientated or assembled incorrectly. The Retainer Clip's pins could be broken or damaged. The metal pins on the Keyboard could be bent out of place or otherwise damaged.

Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?

Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?

Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.

Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
A: There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

Q: The Hinge Clip came off with the Key Cap. What do I do?
A: Because they key can usually not be reinstalled with the Retainer Clip and the Key Cap still attached to each other, you would have to separate them as seen here, using a small flat pry tool.

I'm trying to move the easier hardware stuff there so that I can focus on the more in depth troubleshooting and diagnostic videos here :)

For all the people who dont know why its not fallin there, you have to put the 2 plastic peaces together by sliding the little one into the bigger one first and make a 1 plastic piece of the 2...Thank you very much for your help man too you helped me allot.

If you have a retainer clip that came apart, it's fixable! I figured I'd add this process here in case it helps someone. I'm not sure if the orientation of the pieces matters but I'll be as specific as possible since it worked for me. I have a Dell laptop, I'm pretty sure it's the same one in this video, so it should work.

There's 2 pieces, the big one and the small one. Make sure to locate the holes on the inside of the big piece, and the pegs on the sides of the small piece. If you have an assembled retainer clip on hand, it might be helpful to use it as reference.

Step 1: With the big piece, find the wider end. It's sort of in a wavy shape with 3 "bumps, " place it flat on the table with the 1 bump up.
Step 2: With the small piece, find the end with the wider square holes. That end will be over the wavy end of the big piece.
Step 3: Slot the left peg on the small piece into the left hole in the big piece.
Step 4: Use a finger to hold that side in place. The right peg should be resting above the right hole, not in yet.
Step 5: Using a fine hook/pick tool, carefully hook it on the plastic beside the right hole. Then GENTLY pull it outwards, (if you pull too hard/far it will snap). The plastic will bend just enough to give space for the peg to slot into the hole.
Step 6: They should now be slotted together. You can use your finger to test and make sure the pieces move like a hinge.
Step 7: From here on you can proceed to reconnect it to the keyboard like he did in the video.

I hope this is helpful, I tried to use the best wording I could for it to make sense ^^

Thank I accidentally popped out one of my keys shortly after I bought my laptop and have been struggling with it for months. I finally looked up how to fix it. Your video was the first on the list! Guess I was lucky I never broke the pieces underneath by mistake. Thanks again!

Great way of explaining this. A lot of laptop owners don’t know that a key can be usually can be snapped back on as long as the retainer clip is on the keyboard and not attached to the key. If it’s attached to the key and you try to push back on then you can break the retainer clip.

This is very helpful. The butterfly white plastic spring gets stuck in the keys and has to be removed and seated in the retainer clip to fix. Brilliant.

Buddy you are a Savior !!!
Down key of my 2 month old Dell Vostro laptop popped out. I took it to "Dell's Authorized Service Center".
He thoroughly checked and Guess what he said it cannot be repaired and whole keys board needs to be replaced and sadly its not covered in warranty as well. And I was soo pissed Off that I cannot explain !!!
And then PC Monkey happened And now my key is sitting comfortably in its place.

Thank you for this A key popped off this morning but the white part was still attached to the key. But after watching this I was able to remove the white part from the key and stick that back down, then pop the key back on. Very helpful!! Thank You!!!

If you ever wonder why your video suddenly has a lot of watchtime, that's bcz I was following these instructions while watching the video to repair my "J" key and once I got it back in place I spammed it so I can make sure it works, and coincidentally that's the key which takes you back 10 seconds so uhhh, yeah you now have lots of watchtime, anyways thanks for helping me repair the "J" key. I actually broke the "T" key a few months ago and I fixed it myself without YouTube and I kind of forgot how I did it so I ended up here lol.

Thank you for this video, my computer was acting so slow, not realizing that my windows key was half falling off. I thought I was going to have to reformat, but then I realized it when looking down. After I took the key off, my laptop stopped acting slow, but then I was like, crap, how do I get this back on. luckily it didn't get damaged when I took it off before I watched this video, but it went back down and all is working. Thank you again!
