Do I need to have the new fob programmed if the battery works? I’m only replacing because the key broke off from the fob but it still works if I hold it all together when starting my car

I had no idea the remote key on a 13 year old car had anything to do with starting the car. My key fob for my 2008 toyota just broke yesterday and now my car wont start when i tried to just use the manual spare keys to turn the ignition. It could be car battery but my car was starting fine before it. I thought the remote key just open and closed the doors and turned off the alarm and the key part just started the ignition. Because that would be stupid to make a key that could just easily break and then your car wont start. So you're telling me my 2008 car is not starting with any manual back up keys now just because the key fob is broken?

I have the chip and a new fob, the problem is I can't get the screw out of the top of the key to put it into the fob, any suggestions?

Could you please tell me what size and what kind of hex wrench you use for the screws on the new fab? I bought this keyfab a while ago but the batter died and I cannot find the correct size tool to get this thing open!

This was handy, but if you don't have tools till you get home and there is a tool store close by, go get VICE GRIPS A VERY SMALL PAIR, so not to put too much strain on ignition cylinder and use to turn key in it without loosing it in cylinder till ya get woman don't carry tools but this was how i was able to figure out on my friends car till i could take it apart for her and get my vice grips after the fact i found this video, but when your stuck sometimes those pantyhose come in handy, lol thats what happens when you grow up with a brother who literally built motocycles in his bedroom and paying attention, at 12 and being a jobs in automotive parking lot, with kid in car seat, at 23, so pay attention ladies

Worst thinking Hond came up with a piece of crap fob that disintegrates.
I inherited the car but itd got more issues than national geographic.
Each day I have to watch some video to keep the car fixed.Japanese revenge I am not impressed.
