I feel like the true first step for beginners should have been this, draw out some roads first and place your building around them. I fired up a game for the first time and was randomly placing buildings around and trying to connect them with roads…my town looks so chaotic

It's fairly difficult in the early going. Food is a scarcity. My mistake was building a farm house and a field. Only to find out that it's going to be over 80 days before I can harvest it when I've only got 2 months before food runs out.

And then berry gathering didn't go well either. Simply because I ran out of people to be assigned tasks and didn't realize I could prioritize the forager hut over other projects.

Priority is food to starting out, then timber. All the mining could wait. I made that mistake as well.

Now I'm working on trade.
