I really hope the one classmate learns to love their hair texture and skin tone. Concerns me that they’ve always been in an environment that praises Eurocentric features and started to internalize it. Speaking from my own experience as a black person (this isn’t exclusive to black people btw) always hearing people say a certain hair texture, usually loose curls to straight, is considered “good hair”, encouraging people to get perms or texturizers to loosen the curl pattern and not to be outside for too long or complaining about being outside because they/we are getting “too dark”.
