It was refreshing. A citizen's interaction with the court system. He respects the system and was treated fairly by our beloved Judge.
Nice when it all works !!

It is so amazing what happens when the person, is dressed nicely and very respectful. I respect Mr Parish, and how he reacted. If I was in his situation, I would have done the same thing. I am glad to hear he made it home with the faulty brake system.

I saw a video years ago here on youtube, but sadly cannot find it again. I've tried searching for it for a long time with no success. It was the most amazing pro-se litigant I have ever seen. He was charged with a civil infraction for not wearing a helmet, defended himself, and got the case dismissed on the spot. His cross-examination of the cop was both impeccable and hilarious. He asked questions just like an attorney would, and essentially got the cop to admit:

A) The cop didn't know anything about the specifics of the helmet statute
B) The man had in fact been wearing something that resembled a salad bowl on his head that day.
C) The cop had not measured or tested the salad-bowl resembling headgear to determine if it was the proper shape, size, material, etc
D) The cop had no physical or photographic evidence to bolster his claim

And that's just what I remember, there was more. The judge dismissed the case on the spot, but wasn't super happy about it and gave the guy a lecture about how he needs to wear a proper helmet and basically said or implied that the only reason he was dismissing the case was because the cop didn't do proper investigatory work.

Major difference between this case and one Judge Middleton had this morning.
Lady, who's been in Judge Middleton's court numerous times, was scheduled for sentencing this morning.
She already has warrants for not showing up for court and she no showed this morning.
Judge Middleton has to call her and wake her up and tell her to turn herself in.

Clear difference between people who take responsibility for their lives and those who don't.

In my NJ town every traffic court defendant meets with the prosecutor before court begins. For minor moving violations that warrant points he usually offers a plea deal for a no points offense, but much heavier fine. Everyone gets a similar plea deal whether represented by a lawyer or not. I don’t know if they would offer a plea for leaving the scene, as that’s considered a more serious offense. Here traffic court is all about money for the town rather than points. Court is a major source of income for towns.

"It's a beautiful thing." LOL. He is doing well, indeed. Answers questions, direct, respectful, acts like an adult. Nice change of pace.

Everything was pretty much straight forward, he goofed, he admitted it, life goes on

It is great to hear a case where the Defendant is completely sensible and honest. It was very refreshing to listen to an honest person.

The man was polite. Why drag it out with a trial, when he admits his guilt? Yes, this was refreshing to see.

I watched this one live, I think after or before this an older guy told a funny story about driving suspended and he had TJ, Stickley and Judge Middleton bursting out in laughter

My dad tells a story about a sharp curve, and someone who came home to find a brand new mail box installed and the old mailbox laying in the ditch.

That is how a "damaged fixture" accident was handled.

It's good to see these once in awhile. Like you, this keeps my faith there are rational people out there.

i agree with your statement, things happen in life, while it might be a violation it seems like it wasn't willful like he was neglecting his vehicle, stuff happens, he accepted responsibility and the prosecutor and judge were understanding and seem to be able to resolve it.

I watched Judge Middleton all weekend, and it was a delight. The prosecutors always offer good deals, the public defenders do their jobs well, and the judge is fair. The unusual circumstance in this video is that the defendant was well dressed and extremely courteous. He would have gotten the same deal if he were wearing a t-shirt and only threw in the occasional 'sir'. The judge does appreciate people who behave with decorum in court. I also watched him turn off the live feed to eat cookies at the bench, and sing a Rolling Stones song. Other personal moments too. He's fun.

This IS a refreshing video. It's usually much more entertaining when defendants DON'T act like adults, so don't make this a habit...

I remember one of these cases, this woman looked like she was naked and she was lying down flat on a couch with her arm slung over her head. Cant believe the disrespect a lot of these defendants show to the court

Nice to see Mike. He did it, he faced the music, it was sorted and he moved on.
I think he would have been very releived it was over.

Refreshing to see a grown adult taking responsibility for his actions. His brakes failed hit the ditch rather than another car. Repair your brakes drive the car home carefully. Go to court for failing to report an accident take your lips like a man and move on. He has a bright future if he continues on this path

I agree with your opinions regarding zoom court. So far I've seen people with no 👖, a woman laying down etc. This man is decent and made a boo boo. The flip side is people who hurt or kill other people and leave the scene.
