CDC: Tips From Former Smokers - Sharon A.’s Peer Pressure Story

Like many teenage girls, Sharon started smoking in junior high school to fit in. She thought since all her friends were smoking, it was the cool thing to do. Sharon’s 12-year-old granddaughter is in junior high now. In this video, Sharon talks about her fear that her granddaughter will give in to peer pressure and try smoking. She says kids don’t realize that it doesn’t take long to get hooked.

I've started smoking at the age of 12 until I got caught several times not to do any of that smoking and I tried quitting and then I was still smoking at 13 and then I tried quitting for a while after I had braces and then I was smoking again and then I completely quit and it has been 22 days without cigarettes with smoking free zones

What I always notice with people who use these devices to speak is that they can't make the 'h' sound. Because of the way the air has to move past the vocal chords and out of the mouth for the sound to be made.

I started 🏫 peer Pressure that’s why I started to be cool to fit in everybody smoked that was like the cool thing to do with my granddaughter she’s 12 years old she’s in junior high now and that’s what I am Afraid of you know she’s gonna get in with a kid that’s oh let’s try it don’t even start because it dosen’t take long to get hooked I think she is smart enough to learn from my mistake

is the stoma uncovered like that just for the commercial, or is it really normal for some to live, walk around, or do whatever with it uncovered like that? i've read up on it and the thought of dust, or even a piece of hair or lint getting in there and actually falling into your lungs.

I wasn't pressured into smoking. I did it by my own free-Will, just to see what it was like. 6 years, several packs and hundreds of dollars later, I am smoke-free.

It annoys me the fact most start to be cool. To look cool. And even today, kids deny it but I know they do it to fit in. And it doesn't matter if the information on the consequences came up earlier in time, it isn't going to stop people from taking a puff.

You'd think by now we could generate a better vocal tone out of these devices. There's no way that's the only tone we can make.
