Directional starboard and port cannons apparently don't exist in the universe of this anime (even though they've existed since the dawn of gunpowder based naval warfare).

But sure. Lets just use 10, 000 year old Napoleonic War tactics instead of, you know, actually being advanced in the far future.

(Even Gundam has rotatable port and starbord cannons on their space frigates, and they use freaking giant neon colored mech suits that break all laws of gravity, for f*cks sake! If they can get sensible weaponry right, anyone can.)
