The duel in the original series had a certain level of desperation, the two fighting each other tooth and nail. The duel in DNT seems more "gentlemanly" in comparison as they cross swords with one another.

It is not bad, its just looks like "anime" or movie fight. In the old one Reuenthal fight for his life, in the clutch situation and he done realy well. This is like: Oh look, enemy ambushed our general so we throw him sword and let him have "fair" duel? wtf.. I would have buy it more if they meet each other in dressroom like i OVA or in some other mostly empty area and Schönkopf said something like " i heard that you are great fighter, so i want that to be interesting " and throw him second sword. It would be typical Schönkopf trolling style at least

While an awesome fight in itself (even their subordinates are also involved), it lacks the desperation feeling between the 2 characters fighting each other to death.

Yall forget in the OVA, Schonkopf had armor and still couldn't beat Reuenthal. So all this talk about him holding his ground is pretty much just complaints. Also, I believe most of the Imperial Admiralty including Reinhard, Siegfried, Mittermeyer, and Reuenthal were at some point axe wielding and PA wearing ground troops. In the OVAs Mittermeyer and Reuenthal were both taking out 30 alliance armor troops as their final stand before reinforcements came and both wielded PAs to confront and teams up to fight High ADMIRAL Ovlesser, yea that guy was an admiral. Siegfried also fights Schenkopf 1v1. Some Imperial Admirals are literally just built different, lol.

I felt disappointed. Schönkopf should have been dominant not only because he's a melee specialist, but because he's THE MOST SKILLED melee specialist in the entire Alliance. I would expect a balanced fight on a 1x1 duel between Schönkopf and Offresser, but not against Reuenthal.

1:01 so you mean to tell me that the commanding officer, with aesthetic and mentality inspired by Imperial Prussia DOES NOT HAVE A PERSONAL WEAPON ON HIS PERSON while on the battlefield during an active conflict and need his underlings to prepare and hand him weaponry??? What a load of BS.
Also really hate the mecha/exoskeleton the Rosenritter have in DNT, the armor in the original was better. That and Mahler's 'Tragic' symphony, 1st movement; it made 40% of the fight's awesomeness.

Honestly DNT's version lacks the manly tension the OVA had. Like the fight would've been way better if Reuenthal and Schenkopf didn't look like teenagers.
