An latinum up for Shawn, Chris Ellie and the rest of the Trek Culture team

You guys need to stop downing Ortegas. I get it. This was the year they were supposed to develop that character. Melissa Navia's husband died three days after he was diagnosed with Leukemia. The fact she even showed up to work at all so we nerds could see Ortegas on screen at all this season is enough. Even in the episode of the Ready Room she appears in, Melissa discussed how dealing with her husband's passing was difficult while working.

It's pretty obvious at this point that Ortegas wasn't developed this season because everyone on the Strange New Worlds set wanted to work in a way that didn't make things harder for her than they already were. Just let it go.

I love that Chris not only left "Peanut Humper" in, but also added an up in the counter for it!

My favorite 2023 moments were of Anson Mounts background acting. First when he walked into the door, and then when he was grabbing snacks for the vulcan husband.
And Mairner putting money in the parking meter. Brillliant.

I don't care about "fan service", I was a 43 year old man crying when the Enterprise A and Stargazer appeared on screen. I loved season 3 Picard.

I’d like to add a few of my own Ups:
Up for the return of Tuvok in Picard season 3.
Up for the joke in lower decks about how Nick Locarno looks like Tom Paris.
Up for how beautiful the Enterprise D looked in the newer quality.
Up for Seven being promoted to captain.

The Paywalled Genesis device was *chefs kiss* perfect. That's a missed up.

So many ups for me. Picards started off OK and just kept getting better. The hangar 12 scene just had me in joyous tears.
Then an absolutely incredible season of "Strange New Worlds" and "Lower Decks". The cross over was fantastic but it was "Subspace Rhapsody" that just blew my mind. It should have sucked. It shouldn't have worked. But it did, and it was glorious! I've rewatched that episode multiple times at this point.

My favorite part of Lower Decks season 4 was the Mistress of the Winter Constellations. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Tendi next season.

You missed an important one Seán. Up for every time we got to see your smiling face talking about trek. 💜

My dilithium up is absolutely Those Old Scientists. Everything about that episode was right. I was a bit worried whether they would be able to pull off a crossover between live action and animation, but holy sh*t did they deliver.
Also big thinks to you and the Trek Culture team. I've been looking forward to watching the Ups & Downs every time because I had to know what you thought of the episode. And of course the highlight was TOS again, seeing you going nuts and rocking that up counter on and on was as fun as the episode itself. Thanks guys!

A huge up for me is this channel. I love watching Ups and Downs (even though I don't always agree LOL) and knowing there are others out there that are just as excited about a new Star Trek episode as I am. You guys do an awesome job - and that includes everyone (on camera folks, writers, editors, etc.) Thank you for doing all that you do!

I loved that they gave an up to Sean's blooper! My up was finding Trek Culture & because of it, I watched all of Lower Decks. At first I thought really an animated series? Then I started to watch it & I loved it.

Also, having not said it enough during the year, i cannot watch an episode of recent Trek without following it immediately with the corresponding U&D episode. You're officially an integral part of my Trek appreciation experience. Cheers!

Massive down that the strikes had to happen, though living in Hollywood I fully understand why, but massive up for JERI RYAN, STRIKE CAPTAIN!

I'm not a fan of having to buy into another platform - Netflix. I bought the subscription to Paramount JUST FOR STAR TREK. Nothing else. Now, if I want to see 'Prodigy' - which I loved - I have to come up with more money to access it. Or, fingers crossed, it all becomes available on DVD. I'm all for 'spreading the love', but, my pockets are only so deep.

On a brighter note, I LOVE watching "Ups & Downs" and all the things you folks do for us. Thank you! Here's to a brighter 2024 (I hope).

Reporting about the strike and pointing out that strikes don’t just happen for no reason… UP!
