I was Sweet 16 when this song came out in 1985. What I wouldn't give to go back to that time in my life....to be young again, to see my mom again who has been gone so long, to see all my old friends, and have all my old "problems" again with none of the burdens of being older. I recall the first time I heard the Dream Academy. I saw their video Life in a Northern Town on MTV. I thought. “What was that??!!”. It was unlike anything I’ve ever heard. It touched something deep in me. To quote Pink Floyd, “When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse…”. It was stunningly beautiful, in a bittersweet melancholic way, nostalgic, and even psychedelic with its grainy Super 8 film footage. I stayed glued to MTV until they played it again so I could find out who they were. Finally, the video played again and I got their name, The Dream Academy. I rushed out to buy their record. I couldn’t stop listening to it. I even bought their video collection on VHS. They were like angels come to earth. And then when I found out they were produced by David Gilmour, my guitar idol, it all made even more sense somehow. I became obsessed with their music for a long time. And I still love it to this day. Their music is light in an increasingly darkening world. True food for the soul.

The 80's aren't gone. We lived the 80's and took it with us and it lives on today. We may not live in the physical years, but they are not over. We are the 80's and we take it with us wherever we go.
