Seeing Missy breakdown when she found out her dad passed away was the hardest part for me it showed how much she loved him even though she doesn’t say so

Reminds me of my Dad's passing of a heart attack:

My Dad died when I was 9. The last things we said to each other were: "I love you, see you in the morning."

By 4am on 6/27/08- I did not in fact see him in the morning.

EDIT: Thanks for the condolences everyone. I'm okay, it was 16 years ago on June 27th.

It's heartbreaking because things were starting to look up for the family. And just like Paul Hennessey from 8 simple rules he passes away.

Having lost my dad only 1 1/2 years ago I balled through the whole funeral episode, especially every time Sheldon replayed his father’s last moments.

George is by far my favorite character in the series. I can truly relate to him.

This was a brilliant illustration of how family members deal with grief and very different ways. I was crushed when they received the news of his passing but even more so at the funeral. RIP George Cooper 🕊️

I am really happy that this Young Sheldon series did not try to demonise Mr George Snr so that his story here will be consistent with how they portrayed him in the Big Bang Theory series 🥺

What I found really interesting with this episode was the fact that George was offered a coaching position in Rice University. This episode also seems designed to soften Mary's previous refusal to move on a previous job position where now Sheldon is moving to Caltech, George Junior is married with a child paving a way to their family and Missy wanting to rid that dark shadow of Sheldon being the twin of a child prodigy and somewhat "special".

George Senior was an amazing dad. He was not a "Homer Simpson" but similarly poor however did his best to provide for the family. I actually cried at his death as it brought back memories of my mother's death where I never truly grieved which was over a decade ago.

I would like to hear thoughts on this...

Last conversation with my dad was about how beautiful our Christmas tree was. It was December 28th and he was in recovery from surgery. He was rushed to the hospital that night and he fell into a coma. Passed away on New Year’s Day. 12 years later and it still hurts. Miss you dad.

I lost my father on 2/1/24. Appreciate the moments you have, be happy when nothing is wrong because one day life will give you a reason to be sad.

We had a family portrait scheduled when my mom unexpectedly died so it hit home for me.

Honestly, I love how his death isn't milked for drama. It would have been so easy to write the heart attack happening at home with the whole family rushing him to the hospital where they all say heartfelt goodbyes. Instead, it's handled in an arguably more tragically realistic way, by having nothing seem out of the ordinary. Gearge just leaves for a typical day at work, only to never comes back. We don't even see him have the heart attack, and instead receive the news in exactly the same way the family does.

It really captures just how sudden and unexpected death can be.

It is nice to know that even the creators regretted having Sheldon's dad die in The Big Bang because they had no idea how much the fans would fall in love with his character and the Coopers themselves.

Sadly his last moments are so real. My mom did the same thing before she died. She went to work and never came home. That devastated me more than anything. You always remember that last moment. I am sitting here crying, remembering how awesome she was.

When my grandfather died and I heard I didn’t cry right away my mother did and some other family member but it just…seeing Sheldon like that it reminded me of me. However after I left to go outside as I needed to get away, that when it happened I just went to a park where me and him use to go when I was younger and just broke down I even had to run to his house like a part of me was thinking “no it’s not real” and…it was empty

This is heartbreaking for me because, when my father died, I was the one who had to be strong.

It was his 64th birthday and, not wanting to bother him, I didn’t go into the kitchen for my nightly glass of water.

I was woken up by my mom because we had cats, and I was the only one who could get them all into the garage at the same time by way of saying “everyone hurry hurry” in Japanese while feeding them. She had already called 9-1-1, and the ambulance was on the way. Last thing she wanted was for the cats to be underfoot or running out the door.

A week after he died, I asked my mom if he might have lived if I had JUST gotten up for the glass of water. She reassured me that there was nothing any of us could have done differently. And that’s when I broke down. I just thought he had drunk too much soda again.

There’s a lot of us who had fathers like George in the comment section.
A larger than life, loving in their own special way father who passed too soon.
My dad passed away two days before 4th of July 2014. My parents had just celebrated 25 years of marriage,
I had moved in with my then girlfriend, now wife, 6 months before. My brother had just graduated high school a month before.
I woke up to my cousins pounding on our apartment door, it was like a strange dream that I never woke up from! Miss you dad!

It's crazy because if you remember young Sheldon in season 1 went on a trip with his dad and Georgie to a space shuttle and adult Sheldon said "that was the best trip I ever had I wish I could tell him while he was still alive"

We just finished watching all the episodes of Young Sheldon last night. I'm 74 and cried at the ending. Our kids and grandkids live four hours away. We have a family tradition that we do every time our kids and/or grandkids leave our home. As they pull out of our drive-way my wife and I wave and sing "Happy Trails" to them as they are leaving. It may sound "corny" but it is our way of showing our love to them and that we will miss seeing them. Who knows when the time may come when we may never see them again. Looking forward to seeing the premier of "Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage" October 17th.
