Guitar Legends - Rock & Metal Night - Expo '92 Sevilla

'Guitar Legends' was a concert held over five nights, from 15th to 19th October 1991 in Seville, Spain, to publicise the Expo '92 event the following year. This video was transfered from my old VHS, recorded from British TV in 1991.

This concert was a real inspiration to me when I was younger - the first time I'd ever seen Satriani and Vai. The concert is quite hard to find now, and I thought it should be shared with everybody. I hope you enjoy it :-)

Vai in this performance is on a par with Beck and I've never thought that about anyone ever.
He is just so in the pocket and not playing rote well rehearsed performance he is feeling it and performing at the highest level.
Jeff Beck did this effortlessly and for me is still the best guitarist to ever walk the earth.
I remember this concert series and recorded it on VHS and revisited it tons.
This was my first summer home after first year at Uni. I borrowed a 4-track from a Uni friend and spent the holidays playing guitar and recording 4 tunes on the 4-track.
They are lost to history at this point but I can still mostly remember them. One had slap guitar (not bass) I came up with it after hearing RATM's first album.
This was summer of 93.
Luv and Peace.

The whole show is phenomenal .... and then Steve Vai appeared ... and everything else becomes irrelevant .... "For the love of God" Epic, phenomenally, completely out of every common sense. ....

The unison harmony between Vai and May during the opening to Liberty is just fantastic, especially considering their instruments. Vai's Jem was the culmination of Japanese ingenuity and craftsmanship built on a rich history of instrument making, whilst May's Red Special was cobbled together with his dad in their house from a fireplace mantel, some plywood, motorcycle springs, bits of cycle saddlebag, and a knitting needle! I remember watching this when it was first broadcast and going out immediately to buy Surfing with the Alien and Passion and Warfare albums. It's nice to see how Nuno has evolved into an awesome player, and I'm still amazed how Nathan East can jump so high with that monster six-string bass strapped to him!

Yeah, I vividly remember watching this outstanding recording on regular UK TV in 1992. I was so glad that I recorded it back then on VHS to constantly re-watch. Brilliant!!

This bring back so many memories for me! I was pretty much at the beginning of my guitar initiation. I’d spent all my post office account money on an Argos hohner classical nylon strung guitar ( about £30!) and was teaching myself ( I still am, I’m 45 now) and recorded this on our first vhs recorder. And watched it, and watched it, and watched it! I also recorded it from the radio... must still have that tape somewhere!

I tried for years to find this concert. I went through the BBC videos for years trying to find it. It shows a truly great collaboration of musicians together. You will never find any better collection of great guitar players in one place.
