This showed how Vegeta family stayed in power by killing those with more potential. The Saiyan race was had more potential then frost demons but the Vegeta family kill at birth to stay on top.

had a theory that explains the whole reason behind King Vegeta's pettiness, He's the weakest King of his line. remember that the Saiyans are a warrior people who value strength above everything. they conquered their current home world and named it after their leader Vegeta the 1st, who was most likely a battle hardened warrior covered in scares and empowered by the zenkai boost, most likely they maintain their galactic conquest and mercenary trade seeing a lot of battle allowing his son Vegeta the 2nd to grow strong enough to defeat and succeed his father. Vegeta II, most likely established the proper monarchy and class system, leading to Vegeta the 3rd ( King) to live a more privileged life never knowing anyone stronger than himself so not training often or at least no zenkai boosts, so when he encountered king cold he was either overwhelmed by his strength or more likely King Cold never demonstrated his strength because he was more of a talker and convinced him to join in exchange for advanced tech and more combat missions for his troops, mean while frieze had no issue displaying his power and it scared him and seeing a rando Saiyan with a better power level than his record breaking son just heightened the fear that he and his line aren't the strongest.

Even if King Vegeta did go against Broly out of jealousy and spite, I also believe he also did it out of fear. The fear from the legend of the original super saiyan, where the primitive minded saiyans rage grew so much, it destroyed him and the entire planet he was on. And as we see later on, some of that fear did in fact have some merit.
