You know, those saiyan pods are designed to withstand countless impacts with the same kinetic energy as a meteorite. So Broly being able to just pick one up and crush it like an empty soda can is a pretty interesting testament to his physical strength.

This scene pretty much is what Toriyama envisioned Sayians to be, bloodthirsty, battle hungry, savages. A race that was more harm to the universe than any other. Frieza, while being no better himself, was completely right about the Sayians. Broly exemplifies what a TRUE sayian really is, hell even Goku would've turned out that way if he hadn't bumped his head.
