3:08 Subaru’s “symmetrical AWD” doesn’t mean 50% power to the front and 50% to the back.
It means that the drivetrain design is symmetrical i.e. the same on the right and left sides of the longitudinal axis. So the axles are the same length on each side. The engine being a boxer with two cylinders on each side is also longitudinally aligned and largely symmetrical. This is a simple and balanced layout.

It is what it is. It isn't a sports car. It isn't a large family car. It isn't a dedicated off roader. It doesn't put luxury finishes where you never need it. It does give you a comfortable drive, a bigger than average fuel tank for that longer adventure, driving stability, safety and a solidly built chassis and body that will last.

Good overview and review. Just a side note, the sunroof is part of a package that also includes BSD/RCTA; all weather package (heated seats, mirrors, wiper seats) and a power seat and is $2245.

Subaru vehicles equipped with AWD and CVT have a power distribution of 60:40 front to rear. 50:50 is utilized during x-mode.

I bought a '24 Crosstrek Sport a month ago, and I am enjoying it quite a lot. I also have a '19 Crosstrek Premium and there is a big difference in how much better the newer model is. Having said that, I am not happy with the fuel economy (or lack thereof). So far, my mpg for city driving is around 17-19mpg (in Chicago traffic), but it does perform around low 30's on the highway. Having that 2.5L engine is nice and gives you a bit of pep, but you do pay the price at the pump. If you drive low miles per year or you're on the highway alot, I would say this is a near perfect car. Thanks for the review!

I have a 2021 with a 2.5 liter.
Outstanding everyday fuel economy at 7.7 per 100 in summer. Winter is 8.5 This car is shockingly good in snow with a cheap snow tire setup. I've owned 4wd and other awd before for comparison and this little thing is awesome! I'm 6 foot 4 inch and the interior room is excellent with room for rear seat passengers. I absolutely hated CVT, I was convinced I'd hate it. Subaru has changed my stubborn mind. It performed flawless. I never thought I'd say this....love my baby blue subaru crosstrek outdoor. Interestingly, there are 2 hybrid models and no 2.5 option for the 2024 Crosstrek for Australia.
The Aussie line up is 2.0-L, 2.0-R, 2.0-S, and Hybrid-L and Hybrid-S.
In Australia the top spec 2.0-S comes with Sunroof, leather, integrated gps maps and 10 speaker with amp Harman Kardon sound system for about an additional AUD3000 more than the 2.0-R.

I just got one of the last 2023 manual transmission models, and it does set my heart on fire…. But I’m poor and used to cheap old cars, so..l

The sunroof package on the premium trim includes a lot more than just the sunroof. You get a whole suite of safety and driver assists, heated front seats/wipers/exterior mirrors and a power driver's seat. Personally, I wish you could get those things optioned separately without the sunroof.

Eliminating all the physical controls in favor of the gigantic screen is cost cutting at it's worst. Now you need to take your eye's off the road to perform simple tasks like turning on the seat heater that require you to go through 3 screens. This is dangerous situation and though a fan of Subaru there are safer choices like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV that all have much safer physical controls.

You're not just paying for the sunroof. The sunroof is part of the options package that includes the all-weather package, heated seats, blind spot detection, and power seats.

The way you describe that Subaru, I am sure you have never owned one.

Purchased a 23 Premium with a manual trans as I anticipated the loss of a 6sp for 2024. Frankly the big screen is another huge mistake. We have a VW ID4 with a big screen and that is the only negative with car. Driving down a bumpy road while trying to touch something on the screen is painful. Thankfully you have tangible buttons on the 2023

Gotta say, I appreciate the leading line in the concrete leading the eye to the car in the intro. Too spot on for it to be a fluke. Beauty work

Thank you for this review, but you forgot to mention that the roof rails are very air stream noisy from inside the car. Subaru should offer that as an option. You should own a Subaru before reporting on one. Also, the sunroof package gives you a lot more than the sunroof window. CVTs are junk transmission and are very costly to have them repaired, more so than a geared tranny. They have yet to go the real world road test distance, as they are relatively new. CVT owners are in for a shock when it becomes time to either fix or replace their CVT.

Good overview. New Eyesight takes up a lot of the windshield viewing area.

Looks good. A manual transmission should be available for all trim/engine combinations.

Just took delivery of a 2023 Crosstrek Sport. I considered waiting for the 2024 but thought I'd rather have one built in Japan for 12 years than an all-new car built in Indiana for the first time.

Why is it all of Youtube’s to date don’t feature any of the other models besides the Premium? There is only two times @ 9:11 min & 10:10 min that other trims are briefly mentioned. For new prospective buyers it would be helpful to mention at the beginning of the review that there are three other trims available so that the prospect buyer doesn’t walk away from the review without knowing there are other features available on the other trims not mentioned.
