I think clothing is another big one. You don't NEED Sitka colthes to kill deer.

This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen and it’s an instant subscribe. I’m 25 and I’ve been blowing money on stuff the past few years thinking that I HAD to have it. This year I toned it way down bc I really don’t need it but I was still struggling with the thoughts of buying stuff that I really didn’t need. Finally you put into words what I’ve needed to hear for a while now! Keep up the good work man!

I miss the bargain cave at Cabelas. The Cabelas near me no longer has one in the store.

I suffered through a lot of the same BS. Buying senseless stuff just because I thought I needed it. Some things were definitely game changers.. for me, Sitka gear was amazing and installed helped me sit longer and be more silent.. but the majority of the crap I’ve purchased, literally thousands and thousands of dollars worth of gear, was not needed.

Luv the video!!! I’m in the middle when it comes to this topic. Boots, rain gear and optics you really can make a HUGE difference in comfort and performance. Optics is very much a buy once cry once real as a good set of glass literally can last you a lifetime. As far as hunting cloths other then rain gear in my opinion you can get stuff on sale that works as well as the highest priced brands. I use a 35yr old LocOn WindWalker (heavily modified) but old as hell. In it’s original configuration a 5lb stand and modified about 7lbs. This is a $25 yard sale buy and sure a LWCG .5 would be a dream but $500-600 for a stand is bitter pill!!! I do use carbon sticks but that was more bang for my buck and goes with my saddle too. However I have a hunt specific saddle when if your only doin half day sits I would just use a $40-60 arborist saddle or rock climbing harness you can get off Amazon and they work great!!! Truly the best hunter I know has killed many big bucks with a browning wood riser compound with the four wheel system. He hunts from homemade ladder stands made from 2x4x12 lumber from Lowes. He takes 3 weeks in a row off in fall. Two weeks prior to opening day to scout and opening week to hunt and he smashes bucks every year. He hunts in Carhartt overalls and long sleeve cotton tee shirts in all solid colors. Spends his money on hunting in time in the woods not fancy gear.

I think we all get enticed to buy stuff we don't need.... after i bought my Beast sticks i realized that when it is really cold and i need warm footwear, my Baffin Titan size 11 boots barely even fit on the steps, but since i paid so much for them I'll use them forever.... at least they do stick to the tree better than any sticks i've ever used in my life, so i'm still happy with them.

First time I saw a Hunting Beast video, Dan was lookin sporty in a set of blue Jeans and a bow in a tree stand and I was like “Damn, that’s pretty badass. The Hunting Public and Cat Man rockin Crocs a close second. Just like with motorcycles, it’s 80% the rider and 20% the bike. Hunting’s not far off that mark either.
Ps, the gear room rant is a good look btw. Keep it up!

As far as the tent. If you spike out or hunt out of the backpack every ounce matters but on top of that it’s so helpful to have things that store smaller or more compact to be able to fit more in your backpack. You need space for other stuff still

Great video. It’s easy to get sucked into keeping up with the Jones. I certainly did my first season of “saddle hunting”. I eventually settled on a ground hunting set up and a tree set up and have stuck with it, spending more money on tags and time to travel. It’s paid off much more than “game changing” gear ever did.

This right here. Great explanation! LEVI MORGAN, made a YouTube hunting video, buying, setting up sighting in, and then killing a big buck with a Mathews switchback! It was even a 60 pounder I think they said. That shows latest and greatest isnt 100% neccecary, unless you look at a situation and recognize if I had x product that woulda been ALOT easier. For example, me when I used to drag deer, OUT OF RAVINES, and realized I could do things smarter than that and bought a Kifaru frame pack. Worth its weight in gold! That’s a good way to buy stuff.

I love the message you’re sending, but buying gear is a difficult path to navigate. I’m someone who doesn’t put a lot of faith in something I haven’t seen anyone else use, so seeing what “influencers” are using can help narrow down what works. But I also don’t like to buy things solely based on sponsorships & endorsements.

It’s true! The clothing, stands, bows, and accessories. When is it enough? When it comes to hobbies and u got the money to spend it’s part of the love for hunting. Getting exited about new gear and trying it out. It can actually hurt u in hunting. Gotta learn new setups and what works and doesn’t work for the upgraded equipment.

Great video brother it's seems that alot of the people I have followed for years are seemingly going away for the basics, thanks you for staying on track and good luck this year..

Spot on video. Every year I think I need to upgrade something. Then I remember nope. It still works. Stuff like camo can last a long time if you take care of it. And it’s not needed anyway. I still shot a bow from 2009. Helps I’m a lefty so it’s impossible to find bows to test out. But it’s still a killing machine so I keep using it. It’s all up to you to decide what you want out of hunting.

I have taken white tails over 150 inches with cheap Camoflouge and tree stands from the local wal mart. I do believe in a good dressing knife. I have always used compound bows under under 800.

One thing I can say is I cannot buy cheap clothes from like Walmart because they do not last past a season or two or keep you warm. I buy or build from necessity. I usually buy the cheapest stuff then go from there.
I hate waders. They all leak even the super expensive ones everyone has to have. So I just started to dress warm for duck hunts and used cheap fishing waders. Then I bought a pair from Tidewe a couple years ago because they weren’t so expensive and they still don’t leak(knocking on wood)! So I think Tidewe is a good company.

Many of the best hunters that I know are using gear that has been passed down from their fathers or maybe even their grandfather. But they still consistently kill every year. I think investing your time and energy and being a better woodsman and learning deer behavior has a lot more yield than the kind of gear that you choose. One caveat, however, is I think it’s worth spending money on good safety equipment like a harness is worth it. My father and grandfather never used any of that stuff!

love the message and I too have been sucked into the trap of things before. but for the most part alot of thought and research is put into what I buy mainly out of necessity. these days if your wanting the newer a better technology the price jump is significant. so here's where you almost have to Rely on influencers to show the product because there's no good ways to get your hands on a product before you use it. with that said you can't be afraid to see what others are saying about the product even if it's against what your favorite people are saying and from there making an educated guess. and yes you can kill alot of deer for cheap. no argument there. but man some of the stuff out there makes it nicer and more efficient and if it's your total passion like myself then it's worth it to a degree to keep up with progression. my best advise is don't be afraid to be a couple years behind. there's people who buy the new every year and sell the old constantly. those second hand products at discount are great.

Love it! There is a time and place for a genuine upgrade, but that's rare. New gear is unfamiliar gear. Unfamiliar gear is inefficient gear.

Great stuff man! I wish that I would buy new when I wore the old out. Does not always go that way though. Keep it up with this type of content. Good job!
