The closest I’ve ever gotten is realize I’m dreaming and alter the course of my dream, but then I immediately forgot and the dream kept going in whatever direction it wanted

Animating the guide lines on your character is such a genius design choice.

my biggest flex is not having to lucid dream because they're almost always like fully fleshed (albeit weird) stories and I remember my dreams REALLY well

I got really good at lucid dreaming and it messed me up so badly because I realize my waking life will never be even remotely close to how amazing lucid dreaming is. I dread waking up every morning. I wish I could sleep forever.

Your art form of black and yellow is so unique, and your writing is really good! Can’t wait to see whatever comes next

I was always a vivid dreamer and accidentally triggered lucid dreams a lot as a kid/teenager. So eventually I started trying to purposefully trying to trigger them. There were 2 things that helped me learn how to trigger them. First is I would wake up in the middle of the night do something to lightly engage my brain for a few minutes and maybe move around a bit then go back to sleep. This took some trial and error as waking up during the wrong phase of sleep would basically ensure I would not have lucid dreams. The second part is a little harder for me to explain. There is this phase of sleep called hypnagogia which is the in between state of being awake a being asleep. Often in this state you can auditory hallucinations. If you can stay aware enough in this state to hold on you can find yourself lucid dreaming. The problem is that the balancing act to pull this off is difficult. If you try too hard you’ll end up waking up but if you relax too much you’ll lose hold and lose your awareness. Now this is where it gets a little weird. Years back I passed out due to over exertion right after waking up. When waking up I managed to grab onto awareness while I was shooting from total unconsciousness into consciousness. The experience is weird like being totally lucid as you are coming out of anesthesia. Because of this I managed to better identify the stage of sleep where you are transitioning from light sleep or deep sleep into REM raising my success rate when I’m trying to lucid dream. Unfortunately for me lucid dreaming turned out to be a pretty mixed bag. While I occasionally had some control and had fun most of the time I had subpar control and my anxieties would leak in making them disconcerting if not occasionally enlightening experiences. I also had problems with wake up loops. Waking up from a lucid dream is difficult and sometimes when you think you finally succeeded you find that you are just dreaming of waking up which can unfortunately loop and is not pleasant. You can also sometimes still process external stimuli while lucid dreaming which isn’t a problem most times but if you are lucid dreaming and then start hearing people arguing you can feel the negative emotions with your whole existence which is gross. So while I got pretty good at triggering them I generally don’t try to anymore. That being said one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever experienced happened due to botching a wake up while lucid dreaming. I got caught in a wake up loop when some how I managed to open my eyes. While this may sound similar to sleep paralysis this was completely different. Yes I was paralyzed but instead of the usual demon and panic attacks I ended up wildly hallucinating as I was still very much dreaming. And unlike normal sleep paralysis I could still control my dream arms so while I could not move my real arms I could still interact with the hallucinations.

Worst feeling when your lucid dream becomes a lucid nightmare and you suddenly can't wake up and you're stuck hoping it would end soon with you quests questioning if it even is a dream

I keep a dream journal extensively, but I find it most annoying when a dream slips out of my memory as I write it. So now I try to focus on the most interesting part first so that at least something good goes in the journal. I lucid dreamt once, it was cool but I woke up faster than I had hoped. Maybe if I dream again I can try the spin spin thing.
This video was great, I love your animation and art style, the bold yellow colours are nothing short of delicious to watch!

Oh, hey there, fellow lucid dreamer! Nice to meet you! I’ve been lucid dreaming since I was 15, and now I’m 31. As an artist too, I find it super cool because the whole dream world becomes a canvas. For me (don't want to assume that's how it works for everyone, and I remember that at the beginning it was a lot harder for me to control dreams), the ideas appear in the dream even before I can put them into words, since our brain understands our wants and feelings without needing logic or language. People often talk about how different our conscious and subconscious minds are, as well as the difference between our creative/instinctive and logical thinking. They also mention the huge gap in how quickly each of these processes information. It's awesome to watch it all unfold in real time.
