They were probably in a bar, David told them about the trick ("I was promised fire"), and asked them to bring the newspaper and alcohol out with them. They didn't just "randomly" have it. doesn't mean it was set up or fake. he literally says "someone has a drink with them, right?" he says "right", as in he asked for one beforehand to be brought out. basic context clues.
also there is a thing called editing.

you are all so quick to jump on claiming it was fake without actually digesting everything.

And yeah, it was probably power of suggestion. If you know anything about David (or magic for that matter) you would know he uses that all the time.
The point is to elicit a reaction from someone, which he did, for their (and our) entertainment. And he succeeded.

If you look closely, you'll see the faded outlines of the original word (love) when he spits fire onto it and it reveals indigo. If you look closely before he "fires" it, you'll see the word indigo hidden in the graffiti already. I'm assuming he wrote that there in 2 different chemicals and the fire would combust one of them, only leaving behind the non-combustable chemical.
