I like sunfish. One that was in captivity stopped eating when the aquarium was undergoing repairs, so they propped up human cutouts outside it's tank and it started eating again. The dude missed the human audience and got depressed apparently. The sunfish deserves more credit.

Sunfish do have control over their fins and they use them to swim, they aren't just floating around until they die and the video even shows a clip of a Sunfish swimming around. Also the fish has survived for a lot more than just how many eggs they lay, as stated in the video their lack of nutrients discourages predators and they are pretty durable. They aren't useless either, they have a symbiotic relationship with birds so they do serve a purpose in the ecosystem besides controlling the population of their prey

Eats jellyfish. Which can over populate areas. Crucial.

According to the menterey aquarium: Although early research suggested sunfish moved around mainly by drifting with ocean currents (which has resulted in the sunfish sometimes being characterized as a megaplankton[36][37]), individuals have been recorded swimming 26 km (16 mi) in a day at a cruising speed of 3.2 km/h (1.7 kn).[29]
While this might be the case most of the time, they are also capable of moving rapidly when feeding or avoiding predators, to the extent that they can vertically leap out of water. Contrary to the perception that sunfish spend much of their time basking at the surface, M. mola adults actually spend a large portion of their lives actively hunting at depths greater than 200 m (660 ft), occupying both the epipelagic and mesopelagic zones.

Calling it "helpless" or just something else would have been a lot more reasonable than calling it "useless". That's just wild

"Useless and no nutritional value" . I doubt that. They definitely score high points on the cuteness scale.😊

Every animal has a purpose..Just cause we don't know what it is doesn't mean there isn't one.

Totally untrue statement!
The Fins are not useless and they can shoot off at a fast speed if needed. I have personally come across them scuba diving.
In Taiwan this fish is caught for food.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR FACTS!!!

Sharks still have vertebrae. They are just made of cartilage. So the whale sharks is the largest vertebrate fish. Ocean sunfish are the largest boney fish.

Starts off as a tiny little larvae, smaller than your pinky nail.
So stinking cute. That's it's purpose!😊
Actually they help keep jellyfish population in control, besides allowing birds and other fish to feed off the parasites on their body's.
They are an integral part of the ocean ecosystem
