As both a trumpet player and a former technician, this is somewhat correct.

Valves should be oiled once a week, when if they don't feel slow. This will reduce the amount of wear and tear on the valves.

Also valves are manufactured to be perfectly round, as are the valve casing. However, when putting it back, take some care to not insert at angles as that can damage the valve and the casing.

Please don't put a drop off valve oil on the third or first valve slides. The oil will break down the heavier slide grease which will then move into the valve casing making your valves slow. Instead purchase a lighter slide oil for the slides that are supposed to move for quick tuning. Hetman has a wide range of instrument lubricants. For the first and third slides, use Hetman 4 or 5. If you feel like it's still sluggish, take it to your local repair shop as it could be unaligned, there could be a dent, or there could be other reasons.

If you play a lot, I recommend you give your horn a bath once a month and take it to a repair shop for a chemical clean at least twice a year.

As a tuba, this helped a lot. I’ve got a parade coming up so it might be time to grease all the slides.

How to clean trombone.
1: Maintenance. Open your slide all the way down. A little past 7th position. Put either slide oil or slide grease. Move your slide all the up and down at least 10 times. For your tuning slide, take it out. Do the same thing he did, except put some TUNING SLIDE grease on it. Slide it back in. Tuning slides depend on the type of trombone.
2: Deep clean: Fill a bathtub up with water(semi warm). Ad dish soap in to the water and mix it up. Take your ENTIRE trombone apart. Take the slide off, take the slide cover off (The one that moves when you play) take out the mouth piece, take off the bell and tuning slide. No pieces should be together. Next, lay all of the piece down GENTLY into the bathtub. Leave pieces on for 30mins to 1hour and 30minutes. After finished, take out pieces and put them on a towel. Wipe any soap scuds. Once dry. Reassemble the Trombone. Your welcome

Personally I don’t think twisting your valves after applying oil is a problem as long as you’re not rough with it. And I wouldn’t put oil on your slides because it can cause air pockets that make playing a bit harder
