Store policy is so true. I worked at Walmart and they told us that we couldn’t stop shoplifters, but I do try to steal a lawnmower and chased him around the store and I ended up getting reprimanded for chasing him.

I saw a female gas station clerk at a speedway off OBT in Orlando, chase a thief into a field over a wine bottle. She came back with the bottle. I would have asked him if he needed a bag.

Unfortunately this is a real thing. I work in retail and we can’t do anything about shop lifters, we can’t even call police. The most we can do is ask the person if they need help finding anything if we suspect they’re stealing and if that doesnt deter them, then they’re basically just allowed to steal and nothing will be done about it.

This show is bringing attention to what is and has been going on in retail for a long, long time, regardless of demographics, red or blue states. I have worked an airport retail business for decades. There's cameras everywhere, it doesn't matter to thieves. My company has it's employees sign an agreement that they will not confront shoplifters in any manner or they will be terminated. Companies are more concerned about getting sued. So, all we can do is say something like, you can check out here with me for your purchase. I have had them respond, " I don't have anything." My company has told me they see the theft on cameras but will never prosecute for fear of being sued. It's fucked up, but that's our current reality and has been for a very long time.

Used to work for Nike, had a group of kids come in and start just dumping boxes into the store bags we had for customers, they were surprised when they had charges pressed and they ended up serving time since they was all above 18 and what was crazier was the excuses for why they stole. One told me im “privileged” to have a job, thats the mindset they have

This young boy unfortunately learned the hard way. To avoid being around dangerous offenders that kill, it’s best to avoid committing a crime in the first place. That includes the biblical passage from the 10 commandments that One Shall Not Steal. Got the point here?

So yeah it's not their job to be security or a cop. If an employee tries to stop someone from shoplifting they're putting themselves in danger, therefore the company will see you as a liability. It's also for the employees protection.
