Britain's Werewolf Problem

Are real-life werewolves stalking the UK? From the Flixton Werewolf to the Cannock Chase Werewolf, Britain has a long history of terrifying encounters with wolf-like creatures—beasts that walk on two legs, prowl the countryside, and vanish without a trace. These aren’t just old legends. Modern sightings of UK werewolves continue to emerge, raising unsettling questions about what might still be out there.

This documentary investigates werewolves in the UK, from medieval chronicles to chilling contemporary reports. Could these stories be based on reality, or do they stem from folklore, superstition, and misidentified creatures? We explore real werewolf cases across England, Scotland, and Wales, analyzing historical records, eyewitness accounts, and scientific theories.

Topics Covered in This Video:
The Flixton Werewolf – A beast feared since the 10th century, tied to an ancient refuge.
The Old Stinker Werewolf of Hull – A red-eyed, foul-smelling creature haunting the Yorkshire Wolds.
The Cannock Chase Werewolf – A towering, bipedal wolf-like entity lurking in Staffordshire’s haunted woods.
Werewolves in UK History – Medieval reports, folklore, and documented encounters.
Scientific Theories – Could ergot poisoning, rabies, or hypertrichosis explain real-life werewolf sightings?
Supernatural & Cryptid Theories – Are these creatures shapeshifters, residual spirits, or even time-slipped megafauna?
Is Britain’s werewolf problem a case of mistaken identity, a lost predator, or something even stranger?

As a young boy in the 1960s I saw a pitch black bipedal wolf like creature standing in a neighbours garden, has always stayed with me, sometimes to this day haunting my dreams

In Hull East Yorkshire saw a huge black beast in a wooded area near my grandmas house it was running away from Tilworth Grange a secure mental asylum, apparently with an underground locked place. This creature looked like a hairy really big man walking on 2 feet me and my sister saw it! And ran to my grandmother to get them to see it but it was no longer there, I was 8 and my sister 7 !!! I definitely saw it and didn’t imagine it, I remember it to this day ! It didn’t try to attack us at all just scared the living daylights out of us ! Circa 1981 in East Yorkshire

That was an amazing production.. I cannot even fathom how many hours you must have put into this; the research, the actual locations, the local information, historical accounts and all the variables to consider in the identification of what might be going. Blinding work, absolutely blinding. Incredible work - THANK you!!

Around 17 years ago me and my two buddies went up to Dalby Forest near Scarborough, we were walking through the woods. It was like a narrow passage between some dence conifers under some trees. As i bent down to get under a branch, i noticed some bones. As i looked around, i saw there were hundreds of what i assumed were sheep bones, then i noticed that the conifers looked as though they had tunnels, which something had been using for some time. I wanted to carry on, but my friends was a little unsettled.

Having spent many many years around Hunmamby Filey area in the 80’s, I always thought that Hunmamby felt strange, especially after dark! I never experienced anything but always had an uneasy feeling about the place! Great video, thanks for sharing and creating.

My goodness, that voice is incredible. I’m going to subscribe just to hear you gleefully chew your way through some more of your own scripts.

As per the actual “werewolf” content, I’m only 24:08 into the video so I don’t know if it’s mentioned by the end, but the way that English courts sentenced people to outlawry was for the magistrate to declare, “ _caput gerat lupinum_ “, which translates from the Latin to “may he wear a wolf’s head”. It’s possible that earlier references to the presence of outlaws were later misinterpreted as the presence of wolf-headed men.

Or, perhaps…

Very interesting video; I had never heard of werewolves in Britian before..Several years ago, I was living in a tiny village surrounded by woods and farmland, and twice, on extremely foggy nights, I had let my dog out for a last pee in my garden. As she was a lurcher, and apt to run off, I had her on a lead and literally stood with my back against wall of house while she got on with it just a few feet from me. Suddenly I became aware of very deep breathing in close proximity to me, but could see nothing due to the fog. But it felt something big was nearby, and that it was not human..All I knew was I felt scared, and she was taking a long time, not settling to do her pee. I practically ran back int the house, once she was done, and I have never forgotten how scared I was....Months later, again at night, and same scenario of letting dog out for a pee in garden, and this time I could not hear breathing, but unearthly howls coming from in the distance, repeatedly. Howls and also other noises like an animal in pain, and also a sort of bellowing type of sound.. Growing up on a farm and living in country all my life, I am used to animal noises, and I have never heard anything like it before, or after..A few years earlier than when this happened, there had been numerous sightings of a black puma or panther in this area, and I put it down to being that, but to be honest, there had been no sightings for several years at that point... I did in fact see the black puma/panther, at short distance once as it crossed a road directly in front of my car on an early summers morning, so I know without doubt that they exist in the UK, and at the tiem they wer sited in this area, I also saw what they do to sheep ie finding a carcass stripped of insides and flesh, but intact, covered with fur and head still in place and untouched; that was quite a shock, as I was checking on horses and saw what looked like an empty feed bag with its opening agape, near the fenceline. It had snowed so the white fleece blended with snowfall on ground. It was not until I got much nearer that I realised I was looking at a sheep carcass and what seemed to be a large bag on it's side, covered with snow, was actually sheep with the open bag effect caused by looking up through the ribcage from the center rear. Head was on ground at the front, and back legs splayed to each side. It was pretty shocking. Pretty certain that was caused by a big cat, but tbh, those howls and other noises I heard in garden that night did not sound cat like at all...

In the summer of 1990 me and my boyfriend went for a camping weekend in his van around the lakes. We parked up around 11pm down a country track on the outskirts of Keswick, the lane had dry stone walls on either side. We were in bed trying to sleep when we heard movement at the side of the van then the loudest growl/ howl and I mean that loud it echoed all around us..which sounded like it was right next to the van we, jumped up scrambled into the front and he floored it away from there, We got no sleep and In the morning we went back to see what it may have been and where we were parked we looked over the wall only to find a sheer drop.. My boyfriend didn't believe in anything ghostly etc but that scared him and to this day it haunted me..

My dad used to be a hunter with a license..he was a top marksman..hunting was his life and passion... He would hunt take to his house cook and eat what he had shot...not something i agreed with, but i never had to witnesses this as he did not live with us...dad always in good humour a cheeky chuckle, never really a teller of tall tales, he does not believe in anything religious, spiritual, cryptic... NOTHING.. which is why i am intrigued...dad would camouflage up go to devon in the woods to hunt..late at night...he told me this story years ago...i have never ever forgotten it.. dad was deep in the woods in devon on a pathway, with the woodline ether side of him..he had lost most of his eyesight becuse of how dark it is in there when this happens another sense pick's up..my dad hearing..he heard something running very fast he described..along the woodline near the pathway..he got his gun ready..but as it approach it sounded bypidal..on two legs but it was growling...my dad exact words"i needed to change my trousers"...he didn't stay in the wood's that night ...
