THE DANDEE STANDARD PACK GEAR REVIEW

Dandee Packs is a cottage backpacking company that sells their Standard Pack on Garage Grown Gear. Dan sent me one of his Standard Packs with a larger volume (45 liters instead of 35 liters) to review. This is a frameless backpack that is sold on Garage Grown Gear in the 35 liter volume. The features on the pack are amazing. The pack has a bottom pocket, elastic chord to place a sit pad on the back, and a G-buckle across the top to cinch down the roll-top opening. Check out this gear review of the Dandee Standard Pack as I explore all the features of this amazing piece of gear for the trail. #Dandeepacks #garagegrowngear #backpacking

I made few technical mistakes about the pack in my presentation. Below are the corrections:
#1 - The standard J-straps are 3.25" wide
#2 - The larger volume custom packs do have a deeper side length, rather than longer collar
#3 - The Garage Grown Gear Standard packs range between 14-16 ounces, depending on attachments to the packs

I own one of these packs purchased from Garage Grown Gear and have used it frequently for the past year. I am super happy with the comfort from the straps and the flexibility of the bottom and back pocket for sucking up all the stuff I need quick access to. I also would have liked to see some daisy chain loops on the straps for my Garmin etc. but otherwise no complaints at all. Its my go to pack when I don't have to use a bear cannister and easily handles a longer trip if the base weight is 10 lbs. or less. I purchased the padded hip belt from Dan directly and have added one aftermarket pocket to that quite easily. using my inflatable pad folded against the back on the inside plus my 1/8 inch pad against my back on the outside as shown I find that enough stiffness to transfer some of the weight to my hips which helps at the beginning of the trip when the load is heavier. I experimented with using my Hilltop fanny pack attached to the waist strap clips in a front oriented position as an option but didn't really like the feel of the webbing digging into my scrawny hips. I try to keep my weight total under 22 lbs and am usually successful at that unless there is a longer water carry required or I am hoarding town food. If I need to carry a larger bear cannister or substantially more weight than 20 lbs for a pile of days. then going to the framed pack is what I do (ULA Ohm). Compared to other packs in its class the Dandee is a great value. Its such an awesome pack that I use it for day hikes and traveling since it easily fits in the overhead bins on the planes.

glad to hear he is customizing the torso length and talking to customers to make sure they get it correct.

Very interesting story of the backpack. Very durable and useful. I often think that we forget to do or use simple things, because everyday life, mass media that seeks the sensational, makes us lose ourselves in complicated and often not necessarily useful things. Congratulations for promoting the product.

i really like this bag. the thick straps, the look, especially the clean look of the front with that giant pocket. clearly a lot of thought was put into this design. my partner is into bags/packs and we enjoyed watching this together. thanks crow! 👍

I saw yours on the PMT. Good looking pack. You also said that it wore comfortably and for a frameless without a significant belt, that surprised me. 🦑

Great review! This looks like an awesome backpack! I’ll probably need the padded hip belt available on his website.
I’m going to call and ask for the “Crow Flies Special”! 😝😀
Thanks for letting me know about this vendor!

Awesome pack Brad! Only thing missing that I would need is the attachment points (loops) on the straps. Otherwise I really like it. Has everything else I need. I’ll reach out to him and look into one. 👍

That pack looks awesome. I’ve used regular backpacks before during long walks and they start to dig in different spots, hurting. This one looks nice & flat. Great review!

Sweet pack Crow! When you mentioned it on the live stream I thought you meant Dan Durston at first 🤣 Lot of great features on this one!

Brad, curious on the maximum weight carrying capacity. One word of caution on the bottom pocket. Lots of people stuff their trash from their daily snacks and they forget to remove the trash before bedtime. Mice will eat through the pocket and sometimes damage the pack. My LiteAF pack has that feature. Great review! Happy Hiking

Great review of the Dandee Pack. I was highly impressed with it. It can hold its own against more expensive UL backpacks.
