5 New Features on the 2023 Subaru Outback

We're getting some exciting updates for the 2023 Subaru Outback!

First, the 2023 Subaru Outback is getting a new front facia design. I don't think anyone asked for more cladding but we're getting it anyways! I have to say, I'm starting to really dig the new look. The new 2023 Outback looks more aggressive and more off-road capable with the higher wheel arch cladding and front bumper cladding. The LED headlights also have a nice modern look.

Not only are we getting a new headlight/front bumper design, but we're also getting a totally new fog light kit. The 2023 Subaru outback fog lights are now round and positioned more towards the center of the front bumper. In the previous 2020-2022 Outback, we had the rectangular fog lights out towards the edge of the bumper.

The 2023 Subaru Outback Onyx edition is getting some nice enhancements. We're getting the option to choose between a 2.5L boxer engine and the 2.4 Turbo (previously the Onyx came standard with the 2.4 Turbo). This is a nice addition for those who want slightly better fuel economy.

All new 2023 Subaru Outbacks are getting a new wheel design. This was another one that I didn't care too much for at first but it has quickly grown on me!

The touch screen display is getting some welcomed updates also! The touch screen will now have easier controls for the heated seats and climate controls. We're even getting wireless CarPlay for the first time ever in a Subaru!

You're probably asking, "when can I order a 2023 Outback" and the answer is...we aren't exactly sure. Subaru announced that the 23' Outback will be hitting the lots in the fall of 2022 so orders should open a couple before then. I strongly dislike the cladding. One of my pet peeves is when manufacturers “crossbreed “ models. Don’t they already have a model that looks and maybe performs like a young adult’s sporty car? 😡

I wonder when we’ll see a hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Outback? I’m waiting and hoping soon, because it would really help given the whole rise in fuel costs….and it’s just the way forward. The impossible to get Crosstrek PHEV (and it’s sad massive loss of cargo floor space due to the batteries in an already small vehicle) just isn’t a viable choice for me seeing as how my greyhounds are to big for the Crosstrek PHEV. PLEASE Subaru, make it happen 🤞🏼🤞🏼😁 But I love Subaru products!!

Last month I picked up my first Subaru - 2022 Outback Limited - think I watched every one of your videos before it came in. I actuality knew a couple things my sales rep forgot about when showing me everything during my delivery. We ordered a 2022 Crosstrek Sport for my wife that same day. Not a lot of videos on this trim model - think you can do one for us? I'm sure a lot of the same features as the Outback, but like I said, not a ton of videos on the 2022 Crosstreks.

Thanks for the helpful video, I live in Australia, the Outback XT is finally coming to us early 2023, I've put an order in. I do a bit of soft off-roading now (for my photography), I think the cladding will give extra protection, I'm not a normally a fan of "toughened up looks" but I think it will look good with the new (more streamlined?) headlights and round foglights and if car is in a dark color. I really love the looks of the totally cool blue XT Wilderness with those black 17" wheels but unfortunately, there will be no Wilderness edition in Australia in the foreseeable future.

Hmmmm my lease will soon be up on my 2020 Outback, but i think i will be sticking with it rather than moving to the 2023. Like other mentioned, not a fan of the increased cladding. For $120 i added a dongle and my iPhone already pairs with my display wirelessly.

Great video highlighting changes for the 2023 Outback. Have to admit I'm not a fan of the increased use of cladding. I realize it's an effort by Subaru to have the car look more "tough" to appeal to younger buyers, but I feel that that look should be offered as an option, if a buyer wants it. Will be interested to see the look of the total refresh coming for 2024. Will the whole car be cladded? 😁 Thanks for all your videos, they are very informative!

I really like the Outback - it has a lot to offer and I was considering it for my next car. However, while I like the new front end, I dislike the extra cladding so much I'll probably take the Outback off my list. I can't imagine why Subaru thinks this new cladding is anything but hideous!

One thing I’ve always found with wheel cladding on other vehicles is that it creates a place for road salt to accumulate and cause premature rust. I’ve just lost my 2014 Outback Premium due to a truck blowing thru a stop sign and totaling it. I really love the Outback but I’ll admit the wheel cladding is a big turnoff for me. Makes it look cartoon-like.

The black cladding and chunky luggage rack are very unsightly. The Touring could be equipped with body color cladding, power tilt steering wheel with memory, and stainless roof rails. I’m sure the majority of owners don’t take them off-road. After two disappointing and problem prone OB’s (‘13 and ‘15), I’m done with Subaru.
