Providing respite foster care is one way to support the foster care community. It is temporary care for kids in foster care. Do you provide respite? Let me know your experiences in the comments below!

You and your husband out here doin the lord’s work, man. If every home in the system was like yours, I don’t think kids would come out scarred like they do in most cases. ❤

It occurs to me that these videos are like social stories for caregivers! That's probably why they make me feel confident that I can eventually do this work.

Wow, the quality if your production made a great leap in this video! Very nice. Maybe could you make the text a tiny bit bigger?

Respite care is such important work! I (single mom) get respite through the local CPS (European country) for my biological child due to health issues on my part and neurodivergent issues on their part, and I don't know where we'd be without it. Kiddo would probably be in foster care tbh, as I would be a shitty mom if I never had time to recharge.

When I first read this, I first read the title as "What it looks to provide reptile foster care." lol.

A friend of mine fosters and they went out of the country on a trip recently... I was expecting their foster kid would go to respite for the duration but apparently in our area they just had to find a babysitter? My friend's dad ended up watching the kid while they were gone and while I know the dad and he's a good dude, I don't think there was even a background check, let alone all the usual requirements you have to meet to be a foster?? Wild.

I was put in respite foster care when I was 14 for two days… it was very traumatic to be taken from the ppl you know — no matter how toxic they are— and be placed with complete strangers.
I wasn’t welcomed or cared for and your content gives me hope that more foster situations will be positive in the future.

I did respite often... but could never find respite care for our own foster children. Not many respite care providers.

My mother begged our child services to give her respite care. BEGGED! She was not doing well mentally and her support system was unavailable due to a medical emergency.
They denied her. (said they didn't have a file for us so basically we weren't their problem)
She attempted suicide and they tried to take us away. Tried to frame her as an overall unfit mother and have her rights terminated. (and we were neglected in kinship care before being abandoned)
None of this would have happened if they'd actually helped!!

I mean...i doubt it would have gone over well with me because I'm autistic, but you know...better than almost losing my mother at age 3

With the new text, it might be better to use a different font (right now it looks too squished together) and higher contrast background. Right now it's somewhat difficult to read.

How do you correct a teenager that is watching/listening to inappropriate things while in foster care

How does going on trips and things work, generally speaking, when you have a foster child? Are they allowed to join you/your fam? Cross state or country lines? I know it's probably different from state to state and case to case but generally, is it ok or do they always require respite care?

Have you ever encountered a situation where a child prefers your home instead of the current one they are placed in? What would you do in that situation?

My son use to have respite then he got lost in the system and no longer does. He has mental retardation with autistic like features, intermittent explosive disorder, and a longer list. Hes at times very violent and needs restraints at times and to get a respite worker with training is so hard. My son is even currently with out a school program as every school in upstate ny has rejected him and i feel discriminated against him because of his severe disabilities its so unfair. Hes only 13 and i wish he could have the same things as non disabled children get. It breaks my heart to know no ones willing to even give him a chance for something hes unable to control and isnt his fault. 😢

Somehow the YouTube interface was in the way of part of the text, but still really nice video!

Out of all my experiences with foster care when I was young, the nicest person I was with was when I was in respite. She was a lovely person, super nice, and actually listened to me and understood me. I wish she could've been my foster carer instead 😭
